I'm not sure I understand what hapens when you make a change in a reservation. Can someone help me out here?

Say, for instance, that your home resort is BWV and you book a studio for two nights there at your 11 month window. Later, at the 7 month window you change your reservation to the same dates at OKW. What happens to the "extra" points from your original reservation?

I'm not planning on doing this, just curious. It seems that there would be many times when a reservation change would result in a decrease in the total number of points used, and I'm wondering how DVC handles this.

Thanks!
Michelle

they go back to your account.

if you had to borrow points to make the reservation they go to this year account - not the year you borrow from.

As Spicey noted, any points left over from a reservation change will be returned to your account per normal policies. These points will have the same characteristics after the change- so they must be used or banked subject to the normal restrictions. If the change is made within 30 days of arrival, the extra points will go into the Holding Account, cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the Use Year is no otherwise used.

If the reservation changed had used borrowed points, make certain that those points remain with the change if possible- since they cannot be banked and expire at the end of the Use Year into which they were borrowed.

Enjoy!

Keep in mind that's if you change one DVC reservation to another DVC reservation.

If you originally reserve something non-DVC such as a WDW hotel, DL hotel, cruise, etc., and then cancel, those points go back as 'reservation' points, cannot be banked, and cannot be used for a DVC-reservation.

Thanks for all your help. It's nice to know there are experienced DVC-ers out there who are willing to explain things!
