PVB Tower Charts, Sales Date and more!!!

I am really hoping these have some decent 7m availability in the future. Views of MK fireworks, Contemporary, and Grand Floridian…. truly iconic.

Point chart is about 5% less expensive than a Bungalow.

SAP+ points here we go!
I was hoping that the new tower/tower 2 bed penthouses would create a more affordable redistribution of bungalow points. Have they gone down at all with this new chart release?

I own at BLT and RIV so I have been comparing the point chart to those as far as location (MK monorail resort) and newness. And man this point chart seems STEEP! I know the studios are the most or among the most expensive, but when multiplied out to the 1br and 2br... OUCH!

The most expensive travel period shows how drastic the differences can be for a 1 week stay:

Studio options for 1 Week
  • PIT: 242 291 346
  • BLT: 188 204 246
  • RIV: 209 255
1BR options for 1 Week
  • PIT: 496 562 641
  • BLT: 352 389 470
  • RIV: 426 502
2BR options for 1 Week

  • PIT: 670 795 938 (Penthouse option: 1286 1437)
  • BLT: 484 528 636
  • RIV: 565 646
Unless there are great incentives a year or two from now at a time when I can get "double points" or a week that I really want a fixed week for, I think direct Poly points will be a skip from me. I already have the blue card from my RIV points. I would probably add BLT points when I find a deal or buy resale Poly when the resale market cools down. I have enough points now to book pretty much whatever at 7 months at Poly if something is available when I get the itch to stay there, but paying a premium with that point chart every year wouldn't be my idea of "staying magical year after year" lol.

The reason that comes to mind for me:

Some folks like to be in a more "self-contained" resort. See for example all the folks who complained that BRV (nee VWL) was separated from the main building by a covered walkway. The tower's more compact (and interior) access to resort amenities might make up for the smaller units for some folks.
I think that totally makes sense as a preference someone would have, I think I'm just caught off-guard that the Island Tower is seen as scratching that particular itch. It never occurred to me that people would be treating it like a stand-alone, I always assumed it would mainly "ride" on the back of the existing Poly infrastructure as part of the overall resort package. You're still going to the main bus stop and the main feature pool and the main boat docks and the main parking lot and...

Said more simply: Preferring a stand-alone resort makes sense, but I don't think the Poly Tower is one.

Bungalow points have not gone down - weekly point chart looks identical. I have to say I am surprised at how close the penthouses are point wise to the bungalows. The bungalows to us are totally worth the points because of the plunge pool. The penthouses don’t have that.

The issue with the Bungalows is that you only have two dedicated beds.

The penthouse has 3 dedicated beds.

It’s like they designed these with our family’s preferences in mind.

Gotcha - which is something I didn’t even look at because we don’t travel in a group larger than 3. That makes a lot of sense now that you’ve pointed it out.

My updated winners and losers now that we have more information.

Winners:
- Poly lovers with larger traveling parties and points to burn (obvious).
- BLT and CCV owners. Points charts for these MK resorts are increasingly reasonable in comparison.

My losers:
- Monorail users
- Longhouse availability in the long term for non-owners. Not certain about this one, I’ve been enjoying reading others’ thoughts on this
- 7 seas vibes. I’m excited about how the Poly tower looks inside. But I still can’t wrap my head around the exterior. This is the biggest interior/exterior discrepancy of attractiveness in all DVC. Better to be standing inside than looking at it from outside. (I’m aware that landscaping, design elements, garden bays etc are still in development. Please don’t post pictures of Aulani and Grand Floridian under construction 😁)

Okay, now for the reality of the nasty "bots". For example:

If you buy 320 points with the intention of trying for a 1 BR at Halloween, IMO you should buy a fixed week that can always be converted to regular points IMO. I really feel the 1 BR (always last everywhere else) will be a big hit even with a high point value...and then the bots come in and snag every single 1 BR night as it becomes available at 11 and then 7 months. Of course, you have the other Poly owners you will be competing with...

You just paid $60,000+ (with some incentives?) and basically have no chance of getting a 1 BR. IMO if you want a specific week and a specific villa this is really the only way to go or you are in for a big reality check. If I am wrong, please correct me!
Makes sense to me.

The question would be what category do you want.

Generally the fixed weeks are 10% more points so if you bought a fixed week for season 5 (includes your halloween) it would be:

1 br STD: 320 + 10% = 352
1 br Pre: 385 + 10% = 424 (rounded up as I figure Disney will make you pay the extra point)
1 br TP: 424 + 10% = 467 (rounded up as I figure Disney will make you pay the extra point)

So you will be paying a minimum of 352 points but if you cancel and rebook it yourself (assuming availability at 11 months is available) you would be able use 32 points for trips or to bank to the next year.

On the other hand sometimes they allow incentives on FW and sometimes they won't.

Mom and Dad get the Primiary.

The kids share the secondary and each get their own bed.

Three toilets and 2 showers.

Living space in between with magical views.

Perfection.

We also own BLT and RIV and I reached the exact same conclusions, although I have a lot fewer points so have to be more conservative with what we book. I also expect the incentives at Poly to be minimal, so if I felt the urgent to buy direct, I'd likely buy more RIV points. For now, back to keeping my eye on more BLT resale points!

I did book one night at Poly in a longhouse studio post cruise for next spring, so will shift that over to Island Tower if available and test it out. If it somehow blows me away, maybe my tune will change. It has been a few years since I've actually stayed at Poly and I'm curious if the infrastructure concerns are actually an issue with the addition of Island Tower.

I keep reminding myself to think long haul - this is the shiny new object (and a beautiful one at that!) but Reflections v2 is on the horizon and that REALLY excites me, if it is at all similar to prior concept art.

That sounds like mental gymnastics to trick your mind into not buying points…

25 points is the minimum I noticed. That was the minimum before but I thought when they did BPK they had upped VGF to a 50 point minimum.
