Today, we received our marketing materials, by mail, for Disney's PVB. To me, the marketing launch is strange. I remember receiving more promotional items, both electronic and paper, for the launch of VGF. Moreover, Samantha Brown hosted a VGF webisode and viewing was accompanied by a resort print.

Everything I know about PVB, from layouts to point chart, was learned through discussion boards. Is DVC anticipating phenomenal sales driven by the Disney Parks Blog and word of mouth alone?

For years, people have told their guide, if you ever build Poly, give me a call.

It doesn't hurt Poly sales to have a great Poly authority like Tikiman writing about the entire resort regularly.

Steve certainly does a spectacular job marketing the Polynesian through his Facebook page and website. I expect many sales will result from his detailed narratives and photos.

However, it seems strange that the most expensive resort, to date, does not receive a greater direct push.

PVB currently isn't registered in all States for sale. Texas last week and California is still waiting.

Until they are allowed to sell to everyone, why spend money on advertising?

Great point Bill

Please don't encourage them to have a strong sales campaign. I live In constant fear of the resurrection of Deevee See.

We also received our printed Poly announcement material today but had received the email in the first day or two of sales. It all must mean that they are able to sell in Nevada. When VGF opened it was the one state that even more than a month after sales started they hadn't gotten a license to sell in. I actually have no idea if they ever did receive that one!

Texas was registered last week, we received our Poly sales mailing yesterday.

And strangely, we got ours today, with a standard cover letter from our California based guide.... Marketing mistake or is CA ok now?

What is this? These videos certainly do not exemplify Disney storytelling at its best. The videos remind me of early Disney-MGM Studios attractions, such as SuperStar Television and the shop on Hollywood Boulevard where you could create your own movie. Did they find her at PrimeTime Cafe?

As to where they found her, she was the peeling from a fingernail on the blackboard.

Funny that you mention the early MGM days. Many years ago (early 90's???), I remember taking a Disney tour. She was our guide for lunch at MGM. She had a skit and it was ok because we had never seen her. OK in very small doses, but definitely not something I want to see more than once a decade.

Citizen of Hollywood is totally on her Disney resume!

I agree with Bill, about why market before you can sell to everyone.

But it does seem like the Poly was rushed. I can understand if the rate at which VGF is selling, alarmed DVC and caused the project to be expedited, but they could have waited a week or two it seems for start sales with Poly. Sell to everyone at one time, market better.

The Poly does have a cult following. Tikiman being a great example (and thank you Steve for everything you have shared) so maybe that is enough, who knows.

Then again I am a Poly fanatic (I have told people when I die, i am to be cremated and have my ashes spread on the grounds) but I am up in the air about the whole offering.

I dont know why no one in my family takes my final request seriously. :scratchin

This launch doesn't feel any different to me. In fact, promoting it at things like the Annual Meeting in December represents a new approach.

VGF sales began in May 2013 and the webcast you refer to wasn't offered until August.

There will be initial pent-up demand from avid Poly followers--enough demand to keep the sales staff busy. It doesn't make sense to begin a huge marketing campaign right out of the gate because the sales & admin folks can only handle so much business at once.

I find it very different only in that they started sales approx 2 1/2 months prior to occupancy. For a timeshare that seems to be way behind. And booking starts 6 or 7 weeks ahead of occupancy? Way way later than any other recent resort.

This :thumbsup2

The window is very peculiar.

There are legal restrictions and timelines that must be followed. A certain percentage of the project must be completed, documents filed and recorded, and licenses obtained in the States when they intend to market the project.

Another factor is that DVD is under pretty new management.
