putting on the flame-retardant suit!!!

I'm in with the majority, any post to save money is good. But I also agree that the title should include enough information for you to decide if you want to click further or not. Speaking of which, I figured with "putting on the flame-retardant suit" you were putting 5 in a room or sharing tickets, but I'm glad I checked in.

Two more things 1) Most of the post are for Disney related things (Travel TVs, Mickey phones, etc...) and 2) It's not like there's 1000 new threads a day. Usually a page or two will take you back several days worth of topics.

And finally (and I've never thought about it before but) most of the budget ideas are for the average joe not the super tightwad. Most of us are regulars and if we come across something we post it. Nobody is saying cancel your cable or eat bread and water every other night. Nobody is posting extreme ideas that you might see on a cheapskate board, after all if we were that cheap we wouldn't 1) have a computer, 2) be on the internet and 3) be planning (or hopefully planning) a trip to WDW.

I too agree that this is a great board and when I can save money on other area's , more can be saved for the trip. :cool1:

I love the money-saving tips! Any amount I save due to a tip found on this board is moved directly into the WDW spending column. :sunny: Keep the money-saving tips coming! :cheer2:

Another vote for "like the board as it is"...because almost all of the non-disney items really are very big moneysavers or fun deals (ie I appreciated being reminded about the "free ice cream" day in honor of Yahoo's birthday lol)

I love the board the way it is too. It's easy enough to skip over posts you don't want to read. I wouldn't want to see it change as I have gotten so many good money saving tips here!

I totally agree with this comment.

Personally, I like the board the way it is. I love saving $ and if I can do it here and there, then all the better. Some of the things like the Chadwick's deal, I never would have seen if it wasn't for coming here! I appreciate those kind of things of people passing things on. kind of like a random act of kindness :sunny:

And we all deep down are trying to save for Disney, so I think saving where we can will just get us to disney that much faster!

I agree with the majority that the budget tips provided here allow many of us to save $$$. Many of us use those savings for Disney. The other Disney related boards address other more specific topics such as room codes, AP discounts, DDE card, etc..

Any money saved by any method on this Budget Board is money that can be applied to a Disney Trip, so I'm a little confused as to how the OP thinks the threads don't apply to Disney trips..

If I put my savings in an ING account and gain interest, that increases the amount of money I have for Disney..

If I choose to sell on eBay, the money earned from that can be applied to a future Disney trip..

If I consistently save $5 a month on toilet paper because someone has posted that I can get a better deal at a Sam's Club, then I have still more money to apply to a Disney trip..

If someone posts a B1G1 free at Victoria's Secret, I can run out and buy Christmas gifts ahead of time and use the money saved towards a Disney trip..
------------

I think I'm missing something here - or maybe I have misunderstood what the OP thinks the Budget Board should be..

I was surprised that this was not more Disney related when I first started coming on here but then got so many tips that I was happy it was the way it was.
Love this board... it has helped me save money in many places. It's also fun

I kind of think of budget strategies as vacation related.....every bit someone saves helps fund the next trip. We aren't offering tax advice or mutual funds. We don't discuss the merits of term vs. whole life. Seems like everything discussed works its' way back to vacations, and for most here, that means Disney related. I think all the free suitcases will make it to Orlando, all the coins saved in jars will at some point go to Disney World. Sharing free offers is helpful to lots of folks....just like the knowlege of Hotwire Savings Club, which is beneficial not only for Disney tickets but lots of everyday savings too.

I think I'd be really sad to see it go to strictly Disney vacations. My next two big trips are not Disney related, but I sure like saving on all trips.

But no flames at all. Everyone can have an opinion. :sunny:

I love this board the way it is! I was pleasantly suprised when I first came across it to find the threads weren't all strictly Disney related but more so savings in your everyday life.

Love the $$$ saving tips. More money saved is more $$$ for Disney!!!!

Thank-you all for all the tips, keep um coming!!!!!

I'm new here, but I really like this budget board! This is our first "big" vacation ever and the first time we've ever really tried to buckle down and save for something like this, so many of the money saving tips are pretty helpful for me.

As long as the threads are labeled clearly, where's the problem? There are plenty of times I don't have an interest in a thread and I just pass it by.

I'm living proof that this board is "Disney related"!

I only visit/read/post when I have a WDW trip planned. I am thrifty 100% of the time but when a WDW trip is about 1 year away I go into "hyper-thrifty mode"---that's when I call on the help of my friends on the BB! :goodvibes

Like others have posted, I learn ways to make and save money and that $$ goes directly (or indirectly) into the "Disney fund".

So far, in the 4 months since I've been back on the boards, I've started an ING account (named it "The Disney Fund") and started selling on ebay. All of the proceeds are earmarked for WDW vacation money.

I agree with the majority of posters to this thread......it's difficult to split hairs between what is saving money in general and what is saving money in order to be able to afford a Disney vacation. For most of the visitors to the DISboards, I would guess it's one and the same!

I cast my vote for leaving the BB as is!

:grouphug: :grouphug: Group Hug--we love this board!!!! :grouphug: :grouphug:

I agree with so many others :goodvibes please keep it as is!! Here is what has happened to me - by using this board. Just a few months ago I was not a huge saver, coupon clipper, etc. However, you all have provided me with such great ideas that I am now more of a saver and more frugel than ever before. I have since opened ING acct.'s for our family, applied for the free cold water Tide (to be used on our trip), become a secret shopper (to earn a little extra cash), joined an investing board to also earn some extra change, filled out an AMEX survey (to hopefully receive a cash card) and the list goes on!! All of those things will help us either save money, earn money or at least provide something that will directly benefit us toward our goal of going back to Disney  Needless to say, I would be crushed if a change was made :goodvibes

I think the board is just fine as is. It's not like Disney puts out bargains daily. When WDW does happen to send out special offers or advertise specials they usually aren't that great of a savings to us budget peeps anyway. Or they are specific to the person who receives the "card" or code. Just look at the DW who priced her family vacation using the WDW site and it came out to be over $16,000!!!!!!!!! And that included the new version of passes and a dining plan.

And it's not like this board is so huge you can't read all the posts from one day on one page. Personally, the savings found here can all be related to our WDW trips as many others have pointed out. If I get free shipping on something I order that money can be put toward my vacation.

If the board was for only Disney specific discounts you'd be able to see 6 months worth of posts in one page. It would suffer from non-use and be deleted the next time the boards get rearranged.

I love to get ALL the money saving tip. I have found many different ways to save money on many different things that I would have not known if it wasn;t for this board. :Pinkbounc
