Hi everyone! I would like to hang out with you all here, because I certainly need to do something about my weight, which is out of control.

I do not think Weight Watchers does anything for me anymore, I have tried at least 5 times in the past 2 years, and never lose more than 6 pounds. I can't even lose 10 pounds.

I've looked at Atkins, and I do not think I could get through the 1st two weeks, and the carb counting looks confusing. I guess if I could figure out the WW point system, I should be able to count carbs!

My Dr actually recommends the South Beach diet. It is not as strict as Atkins, and I could see myself on this plan. I just need to make myself determined, and DO IT.

I currently weigh 246 pounds on a 5'3' frame. I do not want to see the scale read 250. This is the most I have weighed in my life. It came on as a result of high doses of prednisone over the past 3.5 years. I am still on the high dose (40mg/day) of the prednisone, and my Dr is going to put me on Meridia to offset the increased appetite caused by the prednisone.

With the Meridia and a solid diet plan, I should see the weight come off, and then once that starts happening, my motivation will pick up.

Well, I am off to find the South Beach Diet book I know I have laying around here somewhere!

Happy New Year All!

Good luck. :) I did WW successfully before but went off plan and gained it back. I lost 40 lbs in 20 weeks. It felt great. I can't afford the meetings but I'm gonna try to do it on my own here. Just gotta get back to journaling.
Southbeach was interesting book I will try to stay on the low glycemic ranged stuff but I don't think I could make 2 weeks with out any carbs either. :bitelip:

Welcome Marie!

It has to be so hard when you have a weight gain due to a medication you have to be on. I hope that the Meridia and new way of eating works out for you!

South Beach is really pretty great. You actually can have carbs the first two weeks, vegetables are just full of them and you can eat tons of veggies on SB. You can also have sugar free Jello and sugar free fudgesicles, which have carbs just a very low amount, these are great after dinner desserts. I won't lie, the first week was pretty easy, week two I was dying for a piece of fruit but I got through it and now phase 2 is going great. If you decide to go on SB there are a ton of people who have had awesome success, check out the SB thread here.
