OP- you may also want to have your carpets and furniture professionally cleaned. It takes pet dander six months to two years to work its way out of a house with normal cleanings, but some professional cleaners can treat the areas with special products that help clear out the dander. So sorry for your son, I know how he feels. Good luck.

I was planning on this, but then I realized it could be a good excuse to FINALLY get rid of this nasty carpet that came with the house and get new flooring put in. We'll see if DH buys it

TxJasmine, I sent an email to that lady here in North Dallas. I'm waiting to here back from them. I did look at some of the other Chis they have up for adoption and there are quite a few that have to be given up for health reasons, so that makes me feel a little better. I mean, I feel guilty having to do this because I can just hear people thinking about what a horrible pet owner I am if I can't find a way to keep my dog. But seeing that I'm not the only person who has had to make a decision like this makes me feel better.
