I need some help with a 30th b-day surprise!

We leave in less than a month for WDW and my DH's 30th b-day! We will be there 8 DAYS (can't believe it). The first 5 days are just DH and me, but then on the last 3 days, my parents and in-laws are going to join us and surprise DH.

My original plan had been to have everyone there at the Kona Cafe when we arrived for our late lunch PS (12:55), and then SURPRISE, eat, b-day cake, etc., and then we'd spend the rest of our day in the MK.

Well, I learn this morning that instead of their flight getting in at 10:30, my in-law's flight gets in at 12:30! FRUSTRATING!!! Now, the lunch plan is foiled, and I'm at a loss of what to do. The restaurant thing would have been an easy way to pull of a surprise, but what to do in the middle of the afternoon??? We also typically go back to the hotel in the afternoons to rest, and DH will think I'm nuts if I insist that we stay in the parks that late into the afternoon.

Anyone have any ideas???? I want to make this special for DH, and don't want my in-laws lack of planning/communication to ruin things!!

Thanks in advance for any help! :wave2:

I am not sure the lunch idea is a lost cause. My DH and I sometimes prefer late sit down lunches. You might consider having the birthday surprise at the LTT @ MK, they have a wonderful ala carte menu and I believe serve lunch till 3:30PM. They offer some wonderful desserts. If not the Rose and Crown @ Epcot is another wonderful late lunch choice and I believe you can get a custom birthday cake delivered from the Broadway bakery.

Thanks, heffalump9. I'll keep that in mind, but DH is likely to get hungry earlier in the day, and I don't know if I could keep him from being suspicious if I had us eating so late.

Does anyone have other ideas for surprises in and around the MK? We'll be spending that afternoon/night at the MK. Thanks!

Can you meet up for an early dinner instead? Maybe 4:35/5ish... just tell dh that's all you could get... maybe at Tony's, CP, O'hanas or Chef Mickey's... you can always grab dessert later on if you get hungry again.

Can you sneak a communication to your parents and in-laws to let them know what room # you will be in at your resort prior to their arrival? You say you usually go back to your room for a rest in the afteroon, maybe you could plan to have them just knock on your door at a set time. You could think up some excuse to request something from Mousekeeping shortly before that time. Have DH answer the door...imagine the surprise when it's not Mousekeeeping! Just one crazy idea for you.

If your parents and in-laws are all familiar with MK, you could have them meet you just about anytime and anywhere. Perhaps at DH's favorite ride? Or check when the Riverboat is running and plan to meet onboard it. I am assuming that your parents and in-laws will be staying at the same resort as you. You could always leave a message with the check-in desk with last minute details.

Good luck...I hope you come up with a super idea for this wonderful surprise! ::MinnieMo

You could try arranging to have a birthday cake available for the parents to pick up when they arrive. Leave a note with the desk to be given to them upon arrival with your room number - the desk won't give out a room number by themselves. Have your folks pick up the cake and come a'knocking on your door.

I love the ideas of meeting them in the parks. Maybe tell your husband you wnat to get a picture of him in front of the castle or some other place. Allow plenty of time for your parents/in laws to get there. While you are pretending to tell your husband to pose, the parents/in laws ask if they can get int he picture too. Something like that appeal to you??

This happened to me a few years back. DW surprised me by having my family join us at MK. We sitting on the curb waiting for the parade when I fell someone nudging me in the back. As I get up to confront the person, boy was I shocked to see my family standing there. Have a great time with Birthday.

Thanks for these ideas - keep them coming!

I was thinking - hmmm, it is about parade time. I wonder if I could pull it off though, with so many people around...
