Pushing Back Reservation Changes Package?

Hi all,

We have an upcoming trip booked for May 29-June 5. This was booked months ago. Our travel plans have changed, though, and now we won't be flying in until May 30. I've tried changing my reservation from May 29 to May 30 on the Disney website, but it seems to be messing up my already-booked package: Now our same room is going for hundreds of dollars more a night!

MY QUESTION:

Will I lose the entire reservation if we don't change the reservation from May 29 but don't arrive (check-in) until May 30?

Thanks in advance!

I would call. They say any changes require an entirely new reservation, but if you call they may be able to do something for you. If not, it may be cheaper to keep the night you don't use!

Thanks, LadyFish. That's good advice. I am wondering what would happen if we told them that we'd missed the 5/29 flight -- and showed up on 5/30 -- would we be penalized?

It really is going to depend on what type of booking you have. If you have a discount that is no longer available you risk loosing that discounted rate. Also if you show up with out proof of a missed flight they can cancel the whole reservation. The reservation system removes people at 3 am the following day (so in your case 3 am the 30th) so you could lose your entire package and then show up to have to pay rack rate for everything.

I would call and let them handle it now instead of showing up on the 30th and potentially finding no reservation in your name or any discount being removed.

Thanks, Wilkeliza. I'll try calling and say our travel plans might change, and see what options I might have.

I would be honest and tell them that you cannot arrive until the 30th. I just do not see the point in dancing around the fact you changed your plans given that you want Disney to help you. I don't know if they can, so much depends on if they can change your arrival date and still allow you to kee the discount, but I can retry much say that if you get cute with this, they will k=not know you have hard plans in place. There is no incentive to help a "maybe"

+1, and I wouldn't hesitate to ask for a manager if the CM you get on the phone doesn't sound experienced. So much can be messed up so quickly by an inexperienced reservation CM. I'd suspect 'worse case' is the package stays starting on the 29th, but they note the reservation that you will not appear until the 30th - so it isn't canceled. (If that's what they do, I'd absolutely get something in writing from them, to show the check in desk when I arrive on the 30th - just in case it does get canceled at 3am anyway.)

Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I'll update as details develop in case the experience is of use to anyone else.

If you don't show up on May 29th you run the risk of being called a no-show and having your entire reservation cancelled.

Disney just doesn't let people drop a day anymore. There has to be availability for your new dates. I would call them and see what they can do. But today might not be the best day to do it since the phones are crazy with people trying to book the free dining offer that came out today. You might want to try tomorrow. As long as you call more than 30 days out, you should be able to make changes without penalties.

I would call Disney and explain that you aren't able to arrive on May 29th. But explain that you have no problem paying for that night, that you realize Disney can't change the pkg. and that you don't want to be considered a 'no-show' and arrive on the 30th, only to find the reservation has been cancelled.

So if I'm reading this right, if you plan to cancel dates on your reservation... it'll re-rate the whole stay? Even the nights that were previously booked?

I just booked 9/1-9/15 with FD + MYW package as my girlfriend is able to get those days off, but not 100% sure on the exact dates. I'm thinking this might not have been a good idea, and I might be better off waiting to book until she has her exact dates.

See, I don't know -- I booked under the "Family Time Package Offer" and, if I change a day, I might fall out of the relevant promotional period and lose the rate for the entire stay. I have to find time today to contact them and see what's up. As others have said, to arrive without this having been settled could be potentially disastrous.

I see. I think I'll be still within the promo period.

I want to call WDW Reservations and I've been trying, but it's been crazy today. I've been getting busy signals every time I try.

I guess I can wait until tomorrow.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Nothing that can't be done tomorrow or the day after.

THe prices changed for me because the ticket prices increased since I booked. For you, if you have not already a booking in place, it is no difference in cost. You don't have the price locked in.

This is why we are suggesting that you call and be honest. Tell them you will not be checking in in the arrival date but that you intend to pay so you do nto need to make changes. Tell them the truth, and let the chips fall where they may, but this really is the only way. If you just don't show, or if you get cute and dance aound your arrival date, the compute will take over, and you are out of luck.
