Purpose of bed turn down service

What is the purpose of bed turn down service? I've never stayed club or concierge level anywhere and am curious. Is it just a nice little luxury to have? Is there something in the mints?

It's just a little perk. They come in early evening -leave fresh towels, if needed, turn down the bed, and leave mints. It's a nice touch, but nothing earth shattering or anything.

When we stayed at the Grand Floridian, they turned the lights down low, turned down the bed, refilled the ice bucket, left chocolates on the pillows, turned on quiet music, and made the room feel so relaxed and inviting. It was wonderful after a long, full day at the parks.

Disney hotels don't do much. Other places we've stayed, we've had fruit trays, beverages, tea service, etc

I love turn down service. It's standard at club level at Disney resorts, but you can request it (definitely at deluxe, not sure about mod or value) if you're not staying club level. Like the PP said, they make the room so inviting - beds turned down, lights on low, curtains drawn, trash emptied and fresh towels in the bathroom. It's like a welcome home after the parks - so much nicer than coming into a dark room at the end of the day. And a big plus if you've been to the room in the afternoon after swimming - all clean and fresh again. We request it every time.

This I can understand! Is it at an additional cost? I would absolutely leave a tip for this on top of the mousekeeping in the morning.:cloud9:

No extra cost. :thumbsup2 We just had to call housekeeping after we checked into our room and request it. Once or twice they forgot, so we just called the next morning and made the request again. Well worth the phone calls IMO.

ETA - it is standard at the Grand Floridian, even if you're not staying club level, you don't need to request it.

The Grand Floridian is the only Deluxe Resort that offers Turn Down Service to all their guests and not just their Club Level guests.

I've stayed at Deluxe a few times and never bothered to request it. But maybe in August, I can see the value of having fresh towels after the afternoon swims at BC.

we were surprised by this the first 3 nights of our honeymoon at the wilderness lodge. we thought it was a really nice touch! they left chocolates (which we couldn't eat all of they left so many!) and cards with native american proverbs on them. i took the cards home and plan on framing them.

I saw photos that looked like saltwater taffy was left on the bed with turndown service. Am I correct that all rooms at Boardwalk Inn get turndown service or can I request it?

If you're staying club level, it's automatic. If you're not - you have to request it. Our last stay at the Polynesian we were told that we only had to request it once, however we found that we had to make a couple of reminder calls, as a night or two it wasn't done. We've really gotten spoiled by it. :cloud9:

When not staying CL a few years ago, we requested it at BC, but it was only done a couple of nights. We don't bother requesting it anymore, even though it is a nice touch!

I just got back yesterday from the Beach Club. This is the third trip I called for turn down service, the third resort, and not once did they come by to do it!
So why bother having it?

We rip the bedcover off as soon as we get into the room and toss it in a corner....after that it's kind of pointless to have someone come in and turn down.....as for the mints...I'll buy my own and for towels, you can catch any maid in the hall and get some....so you don't get much for your tip money and we've had more misses than hits when we did have the service way back when...don't even ask or care anymore.....
