Has anyone cut the purex sheet in half? On our March three week trip to Florida I was thinking that I might try cutting the sheets in half. It's not that they are heavy to pack, or the cost, but the fact that it may be a very small load, in a small stacking washer so it might be a lot of soap in the sheet.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I always cut mine in half, and the side that does not have the softner I use vinegar. I find it works better with a full load. It gets my clothes just as clean. Jo

why don't you just cut them vertically, so both halves already have the softener?

I've cut them in half before also and they worked great. We use them exclusively for vacation but I've started stock piling them for my son so that he'll have them for college.

I used them on our trip to WDW and they were great. I also cut them vertically.

I also stocked up on some when they were on sale (plus coupons) and gave them to my daughter in college. If you can get them buy one get one free and then use 2 $3 coupons, they aren't that expensive. I just bought some $2 for 2 packs.

I was thinking trying them since my DD8 want to help with the laundry. Are they safe for HE washers & dryers?

Ever since we started using these our clothes were coming out of the dryer stained. It looked like an oil stain, we actually ahd to throw several things in the trash. I stopped using them and the staining stopped. Beware of these things, Amazon.com is full of similiar negative reviews of ruined clothing.

From the purex website FAQ:

Can you use Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ in HE machines?

Yes. The product formula is specially designed for both types of machines. However, please note that all machines are different. Specifically, due to the design of some front-loader washing machines, it is possible for small articles, such as socks, to pass through the gap between the drum and seal into the internal workings of the washer. If your front-loader washer has a visible gap, we recommend that you use a small mesh or delicates garment bag to contain the laundry sheet when used—just as you would do for other small items. Therefore, please always refer to your washer machine’s owners manual for operating procedures.

My DS12 uses these, so I don't have to worry about him spilling the liquid. CVS has them b1g1 every once in a while, and if you can find the $3/1 coupons, you can get them for $1-$2 a pack. I stocked up during the last sale.

:scared1: I've been paying full price!! Do you get the coupons in the newspaper?

(btw, even at full price, I still find it to be a good deal for the convenience!)

So it is happening in the dryer? I'll still use them on vacation in the washer and not in the dryer if that is the case!

I used these in WDW and they stained a BUNCH of brand new clothes.

I was so mad. Threw the rest in the trash.

BTW, they came out of the WASHER stained. I didn't even put them in the dryer...

I am not sure where it is happening. At first I didnt even believe that the Purex was the cause but I eliminated everything else and when we stopped using them, the staining stopped. We have an older model top load washer and hot air electric dryer if that helps.

I had this happen once and noticed small whitish greasy spots on things. I now fill the washer to the small load level, drop in the sheet and let it agitate for a minute before adding more water and the clothing. It is the same process I have to use due to the Oxyiclean. I had a couple items get bleached out looking areas when I added Oxyiclean without diluting it. Don't know if you can do this with a front loader or not since I don't have them, but I haven't had a problem with the Purex sheets since I started doing this.

CVS and Walgreens have these BOGOF every few weeks. You can get the coupons in the Sunday paper inserts. But the Purex website has printable ones sometimes too.

The last coupon was in the 10/10/10 Sunday paper..I typically buy two papers if i know there are going to be good coupons in there. I also have a couple of neighbors that save their coupon sections for me. The most recent coupon expires on 11/06.

If I remember correctly, the previous $3/1 coupon was in one of the late august papers. Not sure if that means another coupon will be out 6 weeks or so from 10/10??

I have been using these sheets since they came out in an older washer and dryer and have never had any staining or any other problems with the sheets. I wonder why some people do and some don't? I do only use them with larger loads so maybe that is the difference? :confused3

We used these sheets on our last WDW vacation and all of our dark clothing came out covered in miniscule white threads. It drove me nuts trying to figure out what someone might have left in their pocket that got all over the clothing. After closely inspecting the clothes, I found that the white threads were the same as the downy fabric on the sheets.
I was able to save the clothes by re-washing them several times and using a lint brush on them when they dried. I threw the rest of the sheets away and will never use them again on dark fabrics.
