I am looking to buy dvc resale. I figured I would need about 150 points for a week vacation. I want to go every other year so ideally I need 75 points. I see on a resale site someone is selling 60 points which is close but not enough. If I did purchase the 60 points what are my other options to buy the remaining 15 points I need, or should I just wait until something else closer to my need goes up for sale?

I would wait because the lowest contract that you can buy is 25 which doesn't come around very often. Hold out for 75 or 100. I only suggest 100 because it seems more popular than a contract for 75. You may find one for 100 a lot quicker. Good luck!

DVC owners tend to change after purchase. There is a reason why so many own multiple contracts. We started with one contract, added another, stayed longer. Added another, vacationed at WDW twice per year. Added another, stayed longer.

Now after years of ownership, we have slowed down a bit and of our 6 owned resorts we stay at 3.

Bottom line is, IMO a 100 point contract would be a good fit.

Agree with others--get AT LEAST the minimum you need for every other. Agree with others, if you think you need 150 EOY, then buy 100 points.

For 75 points or less - IMO - I'd call Disney and purchase direct. Figure out which of the older resorts you're into (WL, SSR and AK seem the best pt prices) and hop on the wait list or purchase what's available. I think by the time you figure the closing costs plus time factor for 75 or less points direct is 'worth' it - for 150 or more resale is the way to go.

We just completed our DVC purchase through the Timeshare Store. I would do the 60 points now and then look to add 80 or 100 when you see them.

When we were looking at it, if you purchase from Disney (initial) - the min purchase is 100 points at full-price. Through a reseller -you can buy less than 100 points in the initial purchase. If you want to add points through Disney after the initial purchase - those sales start at 25 points, but are full price. From a reseller they are 50% to 65% of full price.

Hope this helps!

You can do an initial direct purchase for 50 points - been done :laundy:

SSR by Disney runs $135pp Resale ranges from about $72pp to $80. You'll pay slightly more per point for the 75 pt contract rather than a 100 or 150 pt one. Count on spending about 3 months for the resale process.

If I did 100 points do you think resale is the way to go?

I'm looking at Bay lake towers. Resale asking is about $100. Does anyone have any idea on what Disney would charge if they had availability?

Is there an issue if you buy a second DVC resale if the points don't come the same month?

Yes there is and DVC has rules and policies that you should fully understand prior to planning to buy.

I suggest that you take the time to read the DVC posts here on the DIS and continue to ask questions, you are off to a good start.

Monetarily 75 points is arbitrarily worth a direct buy so 100 points is worth the time commitment of a resale purchase. You'll need to contact a few resale sites to get on their list as 100 points would be a high demand resale.

BLT via Disney would run $170. On the resale market you would pay less than $100 per point. BLT would be a great purchase.

If time is not a factor for you (it wasn't for me) then Resale is the way to go. Offer to first reservation was 72 days for me. For 100 points at BLT you'd save $7000. Even factoring in closing costs you're still way ahead of the game.

We bought our first (100 point) contract resale. Then, later, we added on another 30 points direct through Disney (we happened to be visiting on property and toured the model and decided to pick up a small contract while there). I don't remember if there is a minimum number of points for adding on, maybe someone else could answer that? But if you got the 60 point contract for less per point, it may be somewhat
cost effective to add on direct. Just a thought. Also, another advantage to adding on direct is that you (if nothing changes) would be eligible for things like members cruises, which you can't get into with your resale points. At least when we went on our cruise (2014?) we were told that as long as we had the 1 direct contract, we were eligible to book the cruise (even though we paid cash rather than using our points). Just something to consider...:-)

If you bought Poly Direct you would get 2014 points and 2015 points (dependng on use year). Also purchasing fees are less direct than resale. I would compute this into comparing resale cost. Also compute in cost of financing interest rates of resale and direct if that would apply.

I would consider more points on resale as total cost per point on 75 may be much more than on 100 points.

I would not try to buy 2 contracts to get the "1 I need". Wait until one comes up. You are asking for a headache.

Also, you are going to pay more per point the smaller the contract. 1 60 point and 1 25 point will probably cost more than 1 100 point.

As stated, the 25-50 pointer is going to be rare, and then it has to be the same UY.

You will get what you want quicker by waiting to find 1 contract that fits.

Thank you all for your responses. i think I'll take the advice and up it to 100 points. I recently went to Disney so thankfully I have some time to find wthe right deal for me.
