Purchasing Gems in the gift shops

On another cruise line my mom went on they had semiprecious gems for purchase. She really wants some and thinks if she is not there when the shop opens at 6 the first night she won't get any. What is the deal with this?

The had loose stones for sale in Treasure Ketch, but it wasn't on the first night -- it was later in the week. Stones included garnets, amethysts, blue topaz and citrine (sp). The price was $10 a carat and they did have some already in settings which were reasonably priced.

Very nice stones. If you are on eastern you may find them on the islands for less (5$ per carat on St Marteen), also they are duty free if they are loose stones.
