Let's see...

Does this new camera only accept the new xD card??? Yes, looks like it does

How many pictures can I get on a 256mb card??? It depends on the resolution and picture quality you're using. At a resolution of 2288 x 1712, High quality, you'll get around 90 pictures (upwards of 250 pictures with Normal quality, same resolution).

Which extra accessories should I buy??? ( batteries, case, software, charger) You shouldn't need anything except extra memory, unless you want a case for it. The batteries and charger come included. One other thing you might want is a card reader for downloading the pics off your xD card onto your computer. Look at http://www.sandisk.com for one. :)

Anything else that I need to know????? Have fun and try out all the different settings before you take it on a long vacation -- that way, any problems you might have with it are worked out before you risk taking bad, important pictures. :)

Also..where can I get the best price???? Try a site like http://www.mysimon.com and see what it comes up with as far as prices go. Compare those to prices in the stores and see what's the best deal. :)

I would also recommend getting a card reader (I got a SanDisk at Staples for about $25). It downloads pictures about 100 times faster than plugging the camera into the PC it's well worth the extra money. Have fun with it. BTW, www.ofoto.com is a great site for setting up albums, enhancing pictures and getting copies made.

Images on the card is a function of resolution and compression. Plan on 120 to 250 on a 256mb card.

Looks like it comes with a charger and batteries (it is an overnight charger) I would get at least one more set of batteries and consider a faster charger. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/lenmar_mach1_gamma.html I get my batteries here http://www.nimhbattery.com/index.htm

I am a huge fan of polarizing filters for outside work. You need a filter adapter.

I would get a card reader it is just easier than the usb cable.
