Purchasing as a Wedding Gift?

Your guide can only sell you AKV as a stand alone 100 point contract but he/she can sell you a 100 point add on at any resort as I mentioned before. Do the kids have a favoritie resort? You may want to consider that in your decision as well as which one has the most manageable MFs. I have read in the past where people have done the add on and then gifted it to the children - there is an automatic passing on the ROFR for this but there may be a few costs for recording the new need when it is changed into their names. I bought my daughter BCV when it first came on the market but I did the 150 contract so did not have to go through any additional stuff. Just told her to sign on the lines and that was that. It was not however for an event as special as what you are planning.

Out of everywhere we've stayed, VWL has been their favorite. However, this trip will be our first to AKV so we'd like to see their reaction to this location. The add on may be the best way to go. If they do waive the ROFR for these instances that would be a plus but we'll need to see what all costs for both scenarios would be. Good point too on the MF. Which one has the most manageable fees will be a factor as well.

What was your daughter's reaction when you gave her the membership!

If you want to be very sneaky, I wonder if you could get your guide to go along with telling DS that YOU are adding on and want DS's name on the contracts? Have him sign everything (kids never pay any attention to something like this) and then it will be in his name and his name only. He can add DW as an associate member, but the contract will always be in his name.

I'd be pretty surprised if a guide could legally do this. The guides are not even allowed to sell you a contract if they know that you have had a drink that day. For our add on in April DH and I had 1 beer with lunch and met with our guide 3 hours later. We started chatting as they were getting the paperwork ready and our guide asked where we ate lunch. We said that we just had a sandwich and a beer around the pool. Well needless to say, we had to return the next morning to sign the paperwork.

She was happy about it and says she doesn't find the mfs a problem as she has them taken out of her checking account monthly. I think she sometimes still thinks of them as my points but that was not my intent at all. She is single although in a relationship with a very nice man at this point so she is sole owner as these were purchased before they met. We do trade points back and forth as my contracts are at OKW and SSR so depending on who needs the 11 month booking window we just use the appropriate points. If some of my points are rented out I make certain to give her some of the money to help with her mfs as I may want to use some of those BCV points myself some day. Between us we have 520 points and when some are banked we will rent rather than lose them if it looks like no one is going to be able to use them before the deadline.
I know I have read on these boards where people have done the gift or quit claim deed thing to children and have somehow managed to do most if not all of the paperwork themselves so the costs were less than $100 I think. Don't know what to put in the search box to find those posts though.
