purchasing alcoholic beverages for in-room cocktails?

I thought that the liquor prices weren't bad but, price of beer was high in my opinion. One trip that we had, we bought liquor at ABC liquors and the resort was actually cheaper! We have seen liquor in Value to Deluxe resort in gift shops. Money wise, you're always better off buying and mixing your own cocktails, that's the nice thing about resort mugs...free mixers to go with the Jack Daniels. :)

I would just pack it in my suitcase. My DH travels with a whole travel bar in his suitcase.

At Everything Pop the booze is in a case behind the left register just before you enter the Food Court.:)

Isn't that funny; the last time I looked seriously at the hotel-shop liquor prices I thought they weren't that bad.

I have never seen a liquor store in an airport that is not a Duty Free shop. Meaning that it's not for domestic travelers; you can't buy anything in there unless you are on an international flight.
I have now seen these shops in Minneapolis and at least two California airports. I believe Portland has one. They're the next wave of retail. Very definitely not duty free shops - they often carry local beers and a selection of wine-hard stuff.

I have bought Dewars at Everything Pop for around $26 for a flask size bottle (I think 350 Ml but not enough for a 7-10 day stay). Still cheaper than the pool bar, but I can buy a 750 ML for that at home and pack it in my bag. SouthWest airlines allows 2 bags per person so I'll pack a bottle of scotch, my wife some vodka, and a few bottles of water in a smaller suitcase and secure it with towels or clothing. Bottles must be sealed in a ziplock style bag which we also wrap in bubble wrap.

We've also done a cab from DTD that included a 5 minute drive, up to 30 minute waiting for me to shop, and then to our resort for about $20, so if you want or need a lot, or a better selection this is worth while. It's kind of a crappy grocery store attached to a liquor store, so just a case of water and some odds and ends.

Really depends how much you want to have as to at which point it is more cost effective. If you're thinking one drink, a double Dewars and soda at the pool bar is about $8, but multiply that by 7 days for a nightcap and it adds up. The flask of Dewars I got at Everything Pop lasted two nights, but I probably had 4 or 5 drinks out of it. When we took the cab ride we were there for 10 daysand ended each night with a few drinks on the balcony, so $40 for a 1.5L bottle plus $20 ride saved money in the long run.

As PPs have mentioned, if you can bring it with you or purchase before you hit property, you will save a bundle of money.

If we're talking a small amount of drinks, then you can probably do ok buying liquor on-site. If we're talking several cocktails every day for a week, I'd def. Uber to a nearby shop, or see if the minimum order from a grocery deliver makes sense.

I agree that the mark-up on beer is nuts (see what I did there?.) You're essentially paying for one can or bottle what you'd pay for an entire six pack at home.

It probably depends on where you come from. At home, a 750 ml bottle of Smirnoff is $26.50CAN which translates to $18.55USD at today's exchange rate. So $16USD for a 750 ml bottle of Smirnoff at a WDW resort is still cheaper to me than what I can get at home in a regular liquor store. If I was to buy the same in a hotel or resort at home, it would be even higher.

Overall I did not think wine and or liquor was that bad. Just a few dollar over what I would have expect to pay retail at home.

Now if it's beer your looking for that gets into sporting event pricing. Two cases (24 cans) in a suitcase is just under 50 pounds and flys free on southwest. I do put the cases in a garbage bag just in case it should have an accident and put some towels around it to pad it a bit. I have had a can spring a leak so make sure you fold over the bag to keep any liquid from escaping. I also have had many TSA cards where they open the suitcase to check it. Never had any missing cans. o_OWhen you have a large group of adults going this is a great way to keep the overhead down.

For wine you can get a bottle diaper. It's a plastic padded bag that will catch any liquid and protect the bottle. The bag seals closed so no liquid will get out if the bottle is broken. The bags are marked for airline use.

I have also picked up a case at the Hess station and they will bag it for the bus ride back to your resort for you. Hess price is just over retail so not a bad option at all.

most airlines, you can bring up to 5 liters of 80 proof or less alcohol in your checked bag. you can get beer or wine at any of the hess stations for just about "normal" prices. I can walk from the lobby of the boardwalk to the hess in 7 minutes. and bring my empty rolling suticase to carry some beer, wine, sub sandwiches, snacks. the hess by disney springs is just across the streeet (although I hear you can't cross now by the hess, you have to walk around?) they do let you bring a case of beer or whatever on the bus (no openin it! lol) just no suitcases on the bus.

the gift shops at all the resorts charge the same for liquor, whether it is all star sports or grand floridian. about $16 for a.750 liter bottle of smirnoff or jim beam.

(not that I know anything about this.. lol)

Please elaborate on the bolded part of your quote 8-). Is it really that close? I always thought you needed a car to get there!

No need for uber.

Take the disney bus from your resort to Hollywood Studios and walk down the path towards Epcot. Just after you cross under the bridge take a right up to the road and walk about .25 mile to the Hess Express located at 300 Buena Vista Dr, buy whatever beer or vodka you want for far cheaper than you would spend at a resort and take the Hollywood Studios bus back to your resort.

Yes...from the front of the Boardwalk Resort to the Hess is less than a half mile. See map below:

ok I walk out the lobby of the boardwalk by the front drive. now the map LSUfan posted has you walking across a field but I take an empty rolling suitcase and walk along the parking lot and then cross EPcot BLVD drive. technically I guess you arent' supposed to, ad the walkway ends before the end of the drive. oh well. I cut across and walk through the driveway of the hess. it takes me 7 minutes. (but I am a fast walker.. if hubby nebo was with me, we would still be walking....;) )

LSUfan I did NOT know they had Vodka??!!! are you sure?

wish we could stay at BW every trip sigh... otherwise I usually cut acroos Lakd buena vista drive to the DTD Hess and take a case of beer on the bus.. but now I hear you have to walk across a pedestrian bridge and it's longer.

I always take wine in my suitcase. I wrap the bottle in a bath towel and then seal it in a 2 gallon sized ziplock bag. Then I wrap it in another towel and use duct tape to hold the towel in place. Bubble wrap is another good idea, but the towel will soak up any leakage/breakage- not that I've ever had any!
