Do you stick to a certain brand of memory card? I'm shopping target.com and I'm not sure if all brands are equal. Pricing is similar, but there are differences in price among the brands for the same size card. We currently have a SanDisk SD card, but the cards I want are out of stock. Is Dane-Elec reliable? What about Lexar? Do you have a brand preference?

Great question! When I bought my D50, a lot of seasoned veterans and pros kept saying "go with a Sandisk Ultra II SD card". They stated they were very fast and reliable. So, I went to Costco on Black Friday last year and bought a 1gb SD card for like $65. I have nothing to compare it against because that's all I've used but I can tell you that I've been extremely happy with it. In fact, I've enjoyed it so much I bought a 2gb Ultra II card.

As of late, memory card prices are dropping like mad! Costco currently offers the 1gb for $59.99. If you want a larger capacity, they also have the 2gb card for $89.99.

When it comes to keeping my memories safe I stick with the name brands as well. SanDisk, Lexar, and Kingston are my main cads. If they are out of stock at your local Target try an online site like www.buy.com or bestbuy or amazon or cosco. They are all dropping in price.

Lately my favorite cards have been the SanDisk Ultra II....

As in anything, the top brands get there for reasons; dependability, innovation, price, availability. The brands mentioned by Mike are all fine and 'essentially' interchangeable, buy what is available and priced right. As for performance, there are differences whether regular or high-speed or super high-speed, and things like that, but would again, be equivalent, brand to brand for a similar level of performance.

All of the brands you mentioned are reliable. I personally use Lexar. I've owned Sandisk's in the past and have had a "standard blue" Sandisk fail on me, never an Ultra however. I've also used Dane-Elec with no issues. I've had 2 Panasonic's fail on me, I won't touch those again.

IMO, Lexar and Sandisk Ultra's are the ones to stick with.

I had to buy a Kodak card today, as I left my new camera and memory at home... (DAH) this morning when we went to Ohanas for breakfast. I had put my other digital in my bag in case DD wanted to use it, but forgot the memory was out! I'm sure I paid trough the "nose" too $53 for 256mb at the gift shop!

I won't be forgetting my camera again!

there is no refund for the CF card? I don't like to gyp people, but when a company is bleeding me by that much, I'll do whatever I can to get my money back.

The price for having "CRS" Can't Remember Sh**! Actually its that I'm always trying to do three things at once when I am leaving the house!! Happy Birthday to Me!!!:bday:

I use SanDisk exclusively. A couple friends who are pro's have had problems with Lexxar media lately.

I've got one SanDisk "blue", three Ultra II's, and I just ordered two more--both Ultra III's. All are one gig cards. I buy my media through Amazon, get the best prices.

I have several 1GB cards, all are either Sandisk Ultra II or Lexar Pro 80X. No problems whatsoever with either.

I have a Kodak EasyShare Z700. Can I use the Sandisk Ultra II with this camera? Thanks in advance...
