Purchasing a second contract

Hi-

I'm in the process of purchasing a second contract. I own 200 Saratoga April UY points already. We typically got either May, Aug/Sept or November. But we could go whenever we want, those are just the months we normally go. I'm looking at an Oct contract and the points etc work for me. I've had no luck so far finding an April UY with the points I want. I really don't think buying a different UY is going to be that big of a deal for us. I know it would be less of a hassle to get the same UY but it just isn't happening as of yet.

So here are my questions. I know I will get a different membership number because it's not the same UY. I see on the website it allows you to add a new membership number so hopefully that will make it easier.

My second question is, our first contract is in my husband and my name only. I was thinking putting my son and daughter-in-laws name on this contract as that would give them the ability to get the DVC discounts while they are there (although they have only gone with us so far) as well as they would be able to purchase the DVC annual passes on their own. They lived with us prior so we were able to get the 8 discounted annual passes because everyone had proof of the same address. Now that they wont be living with us any longer I'm thinking by putting them on this contract that will resolve that issue. So will it make a big difference on my DVCmember acct? Will I be able to add that contract since it will have two additional peoples names on it?

Thanks for your thoughts.
Jackie

I am not the expert on this, but if you do this, I do not think you can have both contracts on the same account, because your son would be able to access your older contract, and he is not an owner on there.

I think you would end up with two member IDS and two accounts

The new "add membership" function seems to allow this. I have access to two accounts that are titled differently (one in my only name and one in only my wife's) under a single login.

Buying a different use year makes sense when you treat them as completely separate accounts. Combining points from two different use years is complicated, time consuming, and can lead to confusion and risk of points expiring without being used. Since you want to manage everything under a single account, I want to make sure you understand this drawback.

Thanks for your response. I totally understand about the combining of points etc, that really isn't the reason for the second contract. I would be using them as their own stand alone contracts. I would book with each contract separate and not be depending on the others points. I just didn't want to have to have two different login etc.

Adding name on the contract makes them owners, you all have to agree to sell later and they have rights to the points to book their own vacations. Are you sure that you want to add them???

Yes, I'm sure. It's my own child, he knows exactly why he's being added, we discussed it prior. They would never go on and book points, it's solely for them to be able to get the benefits/discounts owners do. I appreciate the concern, I think it's sad that a question like that even has to be asked, that families even have those types of issues.

They are 18 years old correct, they have to be adults to enter into a real estate contract.

My DS is now an adult, we love him dearly but things happen and things change. I would never put him on our deeds, just thought that I would bring the legality to your attention.

Unless you'd go other times, target the home resort you want for Nov or a larger % of the time in Nov, I wouldn't consider an Oct UY. We did add my daughter (but not SIL) to our smaller contract but I'd ask you to seriously consider the full breadth of possible issues first. Here are just some of the possibilities related to adding them.

  • They have financial trouble (home or business)
  • Divorce
  • They can't afford it if something happens to you.
  • Family ******* between any parties.
  • They are in school and hope to get financial aid.
