Purchasing A DVC "Home" That You Know You WIll Never Visit

If you ever want to go to Disney World and stay on points during any of the major holidays....New Year, Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas...you will have a very difficult time making those reservations at the 7-month window. Think ahead for 40 to 50 years. If you amortize the difference in point cost over the long-term contract, it's a small price to pay to know you will have ability to book on property in Orlando at the 11-month window.

I had tried for many years to get my DH to even look at purchasing DVC. What changed his mind was staying there in Dec 2007. We had a 1 bd at OKW and he was sold. I had given up on it since we had purchased 4 other timeshares in 2006 and 2007 so I figured my DVC hopes were done. NOPE! He, yes, he came up with the brilliant (not being sarcastic) idea to buy points so that we can bring my whole family down once every 2-3 yrs. We figured we would wait for a resale purchase and maybe purchase in 2009, but we decided to take the tour on our second trip to Disney in May 2008 just to see the new models for AKV. The incentives they were offering were too good for us to pass up. We got matching developers points to whatever we purchased, and 2008 points - all of which were maintenance free, and on top of that, no maintenance fees til May 2009. We decided to rent out the developer's and 2008 points to offset our costs, which brought our price per point to lower than we could buy most of them resale, and we got the longer contract span through 2057.

We are very pleased with our purchase, and are kinda hoping that the family decides not to join us on the trip so we can use those points ourselves!!! :)

Although, two weeks after we returned from Disney, the week of our anniversary, he has another brilliant idea. We add on another 150 pts for WL and that one is just for us to use! So we did buy another 150 ptsat WL with the sole purpose of visiting during the holiday season as it is our favorite resort during the holidays. Now I am starting to wonder if we have overextended ourselves with essential 6 timeshares!!! :) I guess we will see. Hopefully we can still afford to vacation after all the MF's which we figured are over $5000/yr. I think we are insane.
