Purchase refillable mug if staying offsite?

For our upcoming trip we will be staying offsite the first couple nights then switching onsite for a week. We plan to do alot of resort hopping the first few days since parks will be crowded ( New Years) and plan on eating at several CS restaurants. Therefore, we would like to buy our refillable mugs 3 days before we actually stay onsite. Is this something I can do? Then they'll work for the duration of our onsite stay as well?

I could be wrong, but I believe you have to be a resort guest in order to purchase mug. So you may have to wait for your check in.

Anyone can buy the mugs, and they'll currently work for 14 days after activation at any Disney resort Rapid Fill station.
