Purchase DDP upon arrival?

I just had a quick question - I recently booked Pop for the end of September on the 25% promotion. I only booked our room for now. I have been crunching the numbers and so far I don't see any advantage for us to purchase any DDP, BUT I was wondering if I change my mind as the months go on if I could purchase a DDP upon check-in? Thereby giving me ample time to see if any combination might actually save us money.

Additionally, I didn't see any advantage to purchasing park tickets in advance either except for a time savings. We won't be doing any parks our first day so heading to the TTC to buy tickets might kill a few hours...

Thanks for your input!

You have to purchase the DDP before arrival - I think at least three days in advance.

If you are getting everything a la carte there is no advantage to buying your park tickets in advance, unless the rates go up before you get there. FWIW, last year there was a price increase in August.

I'd keep an eye out for package rates, something might pop up that will provide some savings.

So, I am doing something similar.... in 23 days.... so, heres the deal. You have to add the meal plan by 3 days out.... to add the meal plan, you have to have tickets... So we are paying off our room only reservations about 2 weeks out and adding 1 day tickets, and adding our meal plan 1 week out. Once we get there, we will upgrade our tickets to 9 day tickets.

as for the savings, it depends on what you eat when you order.... Like my husband is not a desert eater at all, but it is way cheeper to use the plan espically if you are doing lots of buffets and charachter meals. (like askerhouse breakfast is over $100....)

good luck!

It is worth the dining plan if you are doing character meals... also, we found the prices of some of the restaurants very high, but on the plan, you aren't looking at the prices, so you can order whatever you want, and not settle for the cheapest meal.

As others have said, the DDP must be added at least 3 days prior to arrival :). We usually book packages because we love the DDP and we like having everything paid for in advance ;).

Just remember if you go from a room only reservation to a package, your room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and the package booked, requiring a new $200; or in your case, the total amount due since you will be just a week out from arrival. Deposits and money paid toward a room only reservation cannot be transferred to a package......this is also the case if going from a package to room only....the package would have to be cancelled/refunded and a room only booked :).

This is what we did last year. I crunched the numbers and QSDP worked for us so I added 1 day tix and QSDP and paid in full about a week before our trip. I secured my room opnly discount but allowed me to turn it into a package.

This also is true so make sure you have the money available on your credit card when you call. The refund of the room only deposit can take a few more days to credit back but your card will most likely be charged the new amount before the refund goes through.

As others have posted, there is not an option such as adding a dining plan onto a room only res.
A room only res is just that, the lodging portion.

WDTC sells the dining plans as part of a travel package. WDTC does not sell room only reservations.

The package will need to be booked, and then cancel the room only res. (Don't cancel until you have booked what you want as a package. You don't want to cancel your current res and then find out your resort or room choices have no availability.)

The money from the room only will be refunded, and you will be paying on the package under the package terms.

It will be nice if someday the funds can transfer between the two. But for now they cannot as they are treated as two separate companies.

This has been great information to find out. It's just DH and myself traveling in our room. Friends with two children traveling in another. We do not have to eat everywhere our friends eat. I don't anticipate doing any character meals. If were lucky I'm guessing we will maybe do two sit down meals (Ohana and Whispering Canyon). So I keep running numbers every which direction to see if it's worth the money. I can't see upgrading to table service if we are going to only eat sit down twice in the 10 days we are there. If we do counter service we still have to OOP breakfast. It appears to maximize your costs you would need to eat the most expensive item on the menu AND make sure you eat the dessert. So far to me it seems like your being forced to eat the most expensive item and dessert if you want to break even PLUS you still need to OOP breakfast. As far as the snack credits go... no concern there since it would probably be spent on drinks.

I guess I could see where table service (if you eat every dinner at tables) would be a better bang for your buck and especially if you have children...but so far it to me it seems to be pushing me out of my nomal eating routine. Now of course if they ever brought it back for free during our stay that would be a whole nother conversation.

Regardless thanks for all the input here so far!
