Purchase AKV or BCV?

My husband and I have been looking into buying a DVC resale for a couple years now and we've decided to do it. Our favorite resorts are Animal Kingdom and Beach Club and we're having a hard time deciding between the two. Which is easier to get into at the 7 month mark?

AKV is easier at seven months out.

At AKV, Standard View and Savanna View are usually easy to get at most times. If you want to get a Value or Concierge Level, you would want to have AKV points.

Buy BCV now and if you have trouble later getting AKV do a AKV add-on.

Chances are your favorite resorts might change once you get a few stays under your belt.

We own AKV but we're going to get a BCV add on because no BCV of any kind is available in July at 7 months out.

I agree that BCV is the harder one to book at 7 months. We aren't at 7 months yet, and for F&W time, there are days already all booked at BCV as far as studios go.

Great, thanks! That's what I figured, we rented pts twice and BCV wasn't available, but it was during F&W but I wasn't sure if that was why. How does the add on work? Say we buy 150 at BCV and then find a 50pt resale for AKV, could you use the 200 total points to book AKV at 11m? Or do you have to wait until 7m?

You can only book 11 months out for the points you have at that resort. So, in your example, you would only have 50 to use 11 months out at AKV. However, you could bank 50 from one use year, then the following year have your 50 point allotment and then borrow 50 from the following use year, and then you could have 150 to use in a particular year. Hope that makes sense. :) Requires some planning though...

Some dates are already booked for 2 BRs, and it's 8 months beforehand. Just to keep track, I logged on today to check availability for a 1 BR in late October. We have BCV points, but we'd be "point-poor" from borrowing to get it now, so we're waiting til 7 months to use other points. Boy, was I surprised that 2 BRs were already taken for late October-but fortunately 1 BRs are still available. Fingers crossed that the 1 BR will still be available at 7 months.
OP-we're going thru the same dilemma for an add-on, but we're leaning towards more points at BCV. That's because we love the F&W. At AKL, I specifically like the value studios, but not as much as I like the F&W and the perfect location of BCV.

Last year at exactly seven months out as soon as online booking opened for the day, we could not get seven night together in a one bedroom at BCV for mid-October.

We are also thinking of adding on at Beach Club for the same reason. It has been hit or miss getting dates at the BCV in the spring, summer and now from what I am hearing F&W...

We have not stayed at AKV yet, but go there for ADRs many times and love that resort. We just stayed at BCV for the 1st time and love it there too (it's our new fave)...but we also like BWV (like both BC and BW for the proximity to Epcot) so we feel it would be better to buy BWV since you would then be able to book the standard view and save points (the preferred view at BW is about the same in points as the BC villas). We also feel it is good to buy at AKV to be able to book the value and standard view which is also less points than the BCV villas. We are adding on points at AKV (we own at OKW and HH...I wish our OKW was BWV).
