purchase 2 one way or RT (SW)

I used to fly southwest a lot but I haven't flown them in nearly 2 years at this point.

DBF and I are going to Orlando 1/2-1/7. We can take Jetblue from JFK (cheaper) or Southwest from ISP (for an extra $66!). We would rather fly out of ISP (smaller, nicer) and may be able to find someone to drive us to the airport, thus saving parking fees.

The price of 2 one way tickets comes out to be the same as the cost of one round trip ticket- Any reason why I should purchase the ticket as a round trip? I figure that if I get a ding it would be easier to rebook a one way ticket than a round trip ticket.

Am I right?

The reason we SWers purchase OWs, not RTs, is because if a Ding comes out for your trip time, it may only work for you one way. If you purchase RT, you'd have to cancel the entire ticket, and re-purchase the non-Ding part at possibly a higher price.

I'd book them separately for that very reason! No benefit in booking as a round-trip.

I book mine as one-ways for the same reason as the other posters. For example a few weeks ago my flight down had a ding fare but not my flight back. If I had booked them as a RT, I would have gotten the ding fare for my flight down but I would have had to re-book my flight back at the current price which was about $124!

Have you seen the newly rennovated Southwest wing of ISP? It's really nice now and very, very easy to get into and out of. Check in and security is usually a very short wait. Then you can sit upstairs and watch the planes take off and land while you wait. I live pretty much smack in the middle between JFK and ISP, and I chose ISP because it is so hassel free.

And yes, I have seen the new SW wing of ISP. The first time I landed there, I thought I had gone to the wrong airport and was very confused

I used to commute back and forth between school and home by flying from BWI to ISP. It was cheaper than driving if I planned it ahead of time.
