I just came across this website.

I am sure there are "puppy mill" breeders on here as well as honest people. How do you tell?

I am so confused by this whole thing. I have contacted some breeders recommended by the National Animal Club for this breed. I have also checked the backgrounds of some of the breeders from this page with the AKC.

At what point do you stop and just "pull the trigger" so to speak? On the puppyfind.com there is one woman there that states she is a stay at home mom and breeds the corgis that she has as a hobby. She is selling them for realatively low which leads me to believe it's not for profit.....

When do you just trust after you have looked as far as you can into credientials????

Can you tell I am alone tonight!!! I was planning on making chocolate snowmen... hmm... melties are still in the bag!

BTW- I am not looking to get flamed here. I understand the importance of saving a puppy life and a dog that someone discarded. It is very important to me to get a puppy.... I am only trying to decifer what is fact and fiction out there. Please don't flame me for looking for answers and input....

You don't. You save a life instead of supporting people who make their living by overpopulating the earth and thus causing the murder of MILLIONS of healthy pets each year.

Yup, www.petfinder.com is the way to go. I would do it again in a minute. My 2.5 year old shepherd came from there, and he is wonderful!

You research and research until you are satisfied with your answers. Checking references is a must.

I know it's counterintuitive, but a low price is usually a bad sign and not a good one. A responsible breeder spends a LOT of money on her breeding program (showing, buying breeding-quality dogs, vet costs, on and on and on) and therefore has to charge more in order not to go broke.

See if you can track down a Corgi board or ask your vet - they can tell you what to look for in a good Corgi breeder. I don't know enough about puppies in general and Corgis specifically, but as a parallel example, Siamese kittens need to stay with their mother until they are ~ 12 weeks old to be properly socialized. (There's more that goes into it, but that mom/kitten time is important.) Therefore, if I saw that a breeder was selling kittens at 6 or 8 weeks, I'd know to look elsewhere. I'm sure there are several "watch factors" like that for Corgi puppies.

Please stop now. Call a local Corgi group and find good breeders, If you cant find any clubs ask your vet for a listing they may know.

Please dont support puppy mills, People think they are saving lives by buying from pet stores to " save this puppy" the fact is most times if the puppy is not sold a breed rescue is able to get in the pet store and have the store give it tom them.
