Puppy Help Need ASAP

Oh yeah, when both of our labs were puppies (one is now deceased) they were up many many many times each night.

It does get better! Every night before bed we let the dog out to potty and he sleeps right on through till around 530 or so. The only thing now that wakes him in the middle of the night is if his tummy is off OR there is coyotes outside making noise.

Also, be thankful he's getting you up! I know of some people whose puppies didn't wake them and they dirtied the crate.

GL! Enjoy this puppy time!

I've had many puppies in my life they all cry the first few nights. Having a puppy is like having a baby neither settle into a routine immediately.

If you are thinking of giving her back already after one night I have to wonder if you are prepared to train a puppy.

The first part is true. However, I don't read her reaction as bad. I think most people are shocked to learn how high maintenance puppies are.

OP, I hope you have a better night tonight. I slept with my puppy for days. Well, he whined and I didn't sleep. :)

Puppies are very needy but with the right amount of effort, can be a great addition to your family. GL!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!

A puppy is just like a baby, just way furrier. It also helps if you all ready have a dog with the training. A few years ago, I had a hus/rot mix who was 7 or 8, then I got a GS mix puppy. She learned a lot about going outside from her big "brother".

I have crated the last couple times. My newest pup is now almost 2. But I got him when he was 8 weeks old. He would cry at night. But I knew he missed his original pack. I put in a old blanket that DD had around her and it became his "wubby". His grate was also placed in my bedroom. So when he woke up I could shh shh him back to sleep or if it was time to go out-which at first was like every 2 hours, I was right there to take him.

I keep saying I would never get another puppy because at the time I think I could declare reason of insanity lol, but puppyhood goes by fast. Another poster wrote about getting that pup tired, wear the pup's butt out.

We got a 10 week old pup back over Memorial Day. The first night, I don't think I got any sleep (but we have an adorable picture of me and him taking a nap the next day  ) We got up with him for about a month halfway through the night, but he's about 5.5 months and he's fine for the evening and has been since he's been 4 months old. He's a little Malti-poo, only about 10 pounds now. Anyway, the next night we had him, we put a pair of my sweatpants in the crate and it helped a bit, but he still cried a lot. We signed up for a potty-training class through PetSmart and the trainer gave us the best tip: put a blanket or a towel over his crate. It makes it more "den-like" for the dog. Went home that night, did just that and we never hear a peep from him. We now don't put it on top, and he does just fine. But give it a try, I was amazed at the difference!
