Can you get Guest Services to punch a hole in your KTTW card so you don't have to keep it in a sleeve on your lanyard? I have heard that if it is done in the wrong spot it will mess the card up so I don't want to do it myself but I would like to have it secured better than just in a sleeve. BTW cruise is Feb 2016 on the Magic just in case that makes a difference.

Guest Services also doesn't know where the chip in the card is. Yes, you could damage it if you (or they) punch in the wrong place. You don't have to take your KTTW card out of the sleeve as much as you used to. The chip enables just touching it to the sensor to unlock your door as well as departing/re-embarking the ship. You can do that with the card in the sleeve.

If you are a DVC member, we have always gotten lanyards from them in our cruises that had ziploc-style seals on them - nice and secure!

I also purchased A DVC lanyard once that had a small wallet on it - similar to what the cast members use. I used the wallet for years - both on and off the ship! I recently replaced it with a similar sized Vera Bradley wallet I intend to use on my next cruise.

How many KTTW cards can you fit in a See it Safe?

In the normal one (not the oversized one) while at the parks I carry my KTTW, ID, credit card, insurance card, and usually some cash. So 4 plus the room for cash, easy. More cards for the cruise since you won't need the cash onboard.

The problem with even the DVC lanyards given at the port or on board is that the plastic is flimsy and the metal ring is weak. If you get it caught on something it can break and tear off. DH lost his and DS's DLR APs that way when it hooked on the restraint. And even though it was Disney product vs a Disney ride and Disney CMs couldn't find it, thy still made us pay for the replacements. (Disneyland policy)

And the ziptop closure on the various Disney lanyard pouches I've had always always eventually breaks. Both the ziplock style and the Hefty brand slider style ones. And that's not even mentioning the flimsy ring.

That's why I got the Witz. The ring is super sturdy and you can put it in the lanyard of your choice (i like my Ravenclaw lanyard personally).

The waterproof part isn't important when you only have plastic cards in it, of course.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but would the see it safe have room for a car key? We've got some days on land with a hire car and was wanting something waterproof to keep car key in whilst we are on the beach.
Thanks. Gillian.

There are bigger ones, but rental car keys can be absolutely huge, especially if they give you one with both key fobs on it. So I'm not totally sure that they would fit.

Uhm, if they gave you a ring with both keys on it, couldn't you just take them off?:rolleyes1

While on the Fantasy, at our request, guest services punched a hole in ours..... then it wouldn't work. We had to get a new one. When we returned to guest services they told us that we should not have punched a hole in it. I informed them that we actually had it punched at guest services and they were shocked. It was a new employee from the Magic that did it. So a definite no-no on the Fantasy.

Most if not all rental car companies have the keys, key fob and an identifier on a crimped cable. Even if you could get a single key off, assuming your vehicle has a key, they keys are chipped and can be quite thick.

I just carry my KTTW in my wallet, like I would when staying at a hotel. Lanyards are a hassle to me.

If you couldn't get the keys separated there would be no point in having more than one key. I don't mean to argue, but it just wouldn't make sense.

I understand being perplexed about the key/fob issue. They are just as described above....all on one crimped, bulky ring. So, while I agree it doesn't make sense to have all the keys on one ring and have them unable to separate, that is how it is done. Google: Rental Car Rules - Why two sets of keys on same ring. That may clear some of the mystery :)

Rental cars end up all over the country as they are often not returned to where they are picked up. The car manufacturer issues two sets of keys and the rental car company wants to keep all of the keys with the car so they don't have to hunt them down when they eventually sell the car. If they didn't chain force them to stay together, then inevitably one would get misplaced. (I have never reached the issue, but travel a lot and this has always been my assumption.)

Thanks for the visual!

Nope, it makes no sense. But then it does (b/c of the concept of the car ending up all over the country).

The rental car key thing got noticed by me last summer when I, um, dropped my rental car's keys down an elevator shaft. It did end well; DH came back from his work meeting (he and the coworkers are all engineers or paid to think like engineers and they brainstormed), stopped at a car parts store and bought an extendable, magnetic pole, and was able to fish the keys out [rather than pay the Otis elevator guy upwards of $600 to come at 5:30pm on a Friday OR pay Alamo for new keys plus towing it over there].

BUT while talking with Alamo and the hotel staff, I realized that I somehow only had ONE key on the fob, which meant that the other key had already been lost somewhere and was nowhere for Alamo to find. So it all really stuck out in my mind. I'd never paid much attention to rental car keys before!

And when your keys are stolen from the vestibule of a church in Renton, WA, while you are at a wedding rehearsal, along with your cell phone and the leather jacket you got from your wife as a graduation gift, you have no way, nor does your rental agency, of starting the car. So you have to stand in said church parking lot for three hours, without a jacket, while a tow truck tries to find you to drop off a decrepit Buick for you to drive the rest of the time you are in the Seattle area and tow away your now useless Nissan Maxima.

Ask me how I know. ;)
