She called the police ONCE. They came over on Tuesday after the fire to ask more questions. Then someone showed up, at 9pm, saying they were with the police. She wants to know why this person came by; it's kind of creepy to me, too!

Calling once and dropping it seems like letting go. Should she have NOT told the detective about the hinky happenings right before a house caught fire? Should she have kept it to herself, that there was someone in the community who didn't seem to care about the belongings of others?????

Calling the cops every day would be not letting it go. I don't know what else the OP should do, er, NOT do, to meet the definition of letting it go...




What attitude??? She's just describing how she grew up. And she says that her current neighborhood is just as nice. The street I grew up on was a very very POOR neighborhood. Most of my friends lived in very wealthy neighborhoods. No one had attitudes about it, but we certainly are allowed to describe the differences.

You have your opinion and others have their opinion.

My opinion, as I have stated all along, has been to just move on from involving the police dept and the detectives offices about the missing pumpkins. OP has said herself she is not really sure that the house the pumpkins are at are the people that took them......that is my whole point......if you do not have the details than just move on. OP is not even sure who smashed the pumpkins in her front yard......if you do not have the details than just move on.

I kind of thought the same thing.....I had a really nice wrought iron pumpkin out this year and someone stole that and I didn't bother calling the police. It was a gift from my mom but I know that it was in the $60 price range. I never called because really what is that going to do? I know I'm not going to get it back and makes me a little afraid to decorate for Christmas, but oh well I'm not going to let a few idiots get to me!

Always call because you may not be the only person this happened to in the neighborhood. It helps the police establish a pattern, and gives them more to work with if they catch someone.

I had already called, but didn't say that, because several people answered me by saying how stuipd it was, and how the police would be laughing at me, ect. I didn't feel the need to help them along with their rude comments. Plus at first the thread was a question WWYD thread, it wasn't me telling people what personally happened to me untill more stuff started happening (the smashed pumpkin), and I said it.
Then yes, I said that I didn't want to call the police after I found the smashed pumpkin (the second day) all over my front landing, and that was true. I really didnt want to call again, I just left out the "again" part. People on here can jump on you so quickly, even if they haven't read everything, and I felt that was happening to me, so I ommited that part. Is that OK??

Where was the lie? No, I didn't volunteer the information out, but I never lied and said the opposite.
It was a WWYD thread, and I simply said if someone stole all your pumpkins, would you call the police. I believe the thread kept going because more happened, i.e. the smashing, but by then, I had gotten past the first part, and never thought to re-cap till this thread. If I wanted to keep the "lie" going (which it was not), I would have here.

I wish someone would steal our pumpkins. Little fruit flies were swarming me when I was trying to string Christmas lights this afternoon.

I live in a 35 year old middle class neighborhood nestled between a few newer upper middle class neighborhoods. The criminals walk right on by thinking we don't have anything worth stealing on their way to the richies. :lol: We've been here 15 years, rarely lock our doors and have never heard of anyone even having a break in.
My sister says, according to several websites, my neighborhood is safer than some sparsely populated areas of Iowa.

You know what? I'm with the Op here. I definitely would not let let this go, simply on general principle. I pay a mortgage, property taxes and homeowners insurance so that i can decorate my yard as i wish. the some little punk is going to come onto my property and take or vandalize my things? I don't think so.
