Pulse Smartpen-do you like it, do I need one? (a.k.a. will it save my butt?)

I found this at Best Buy last week, and from the research I've done so far, this might be the "magic wand" that saves my butt this term!

One of my instructors goes really fast, and doesn't repeat himself at all. So he will say a whole paragraph, pause briefly while everyone tries to take notes, and then start into another whole paragraph when we're about halfway through writing down info about the last thing he said.

I don't usually have a problem with keeping up with notes, because I don't generally write down everything that is said. However, with this guy, it feels like there aren't even any words that can or should be left out.

I had such a headache after that class Monday night, and it was only the first night of the class!

Now in my other class that starts on Thursday, I have already seen the syllabus and assignment sheet - and it looks HARD! I can definitely see where something like this smartpen thing might be really helpful in my "core classes" (management type classes), which so far have been my most difficult.

So I'm looking to hear from anyone who owns one of these and uses it, either for school or work. will it save my butt? And are there any problems/issues with it that I should be aware of?

Thanks!

I have never heard of that but wouldnt a digital recording be alot cheaper and just as good?

That's a pretty cool and pricey gadget! But I agree with tiggger1 that it would be a whole lot cheaper to just get yourself a digital audio recorder.

For that matter, by the time you pay for the smartpen and notebooks that go with it, you could buy yourself an iPhone and it'll record for you too. ;)

I do have an iphone... I could even record video (with the instructor's permission, of course) if I really wanted to. But I most definitely do not have the time to go through four hours of recorded class time each week to refresh my memory when my midterm and finals approach!

The reason I thought this would be so much better is because you can write just a word or two, and then later tap on it with your pen (or click on it on your computer monitor), and it will play back exactly what he was saying when you wrote those words. No need to play back an entire recording. :thumbsup2

So has anybody here used one?

I think it looks like a great idea. I am starting school next fall and I may thin about getting one of these. I agree with you, I like the idea of having some notes and then playing back exactly what he said. Also if you had to make any diagrams you can down load it to your home computer.

I am not a gadget person, but I think I am turning into one. lol

I have one and I love it!!!

I used it on a field trip and just wrote down key words, and when I look at my notes i can tap that word and hear what she said about that subject.

I looked it up after the first post. I had not heard of tis before.

It looks like something that could really help one of my high school students. Defiantly will read all the responses here.
