I have read several accounts of kids pulling the sword out of the stone in Fantasyland, and I know that a cast memeber controls it from somewhere.... my question is: What time of day is the best to '"try".....I am sure that there isn't a cast member there from opening to close.....

Thanks !

I've heard of it being done, but haven't witnessed it....would love to tho

Do they do it randomly in WDW? In DL the only time I have ever seen it done was during an actual show. Merlin picks a kid from the crowd and the kid pulls the sword up. It doesn't come all the way out though.

In WDW, it's at random. There used to be a show with Merlin, but that show no longer occurs in WDW.

what happens if you are the one that can pull it out? Anything special?

At Disneyland, you used to have to gather at the stone first thing in the morning, and a cast member would had out something (I think the time when it would take place) to tell certain people to come back at a certain time for the show. There was a show and if you were the one who was able to "pull the sword out" you were the Sorcerer of the day (included hat, certificate, and something else) and got to ride in a parade later. Though this strategy was way back in the day and I'm sure it has be updated by now.

I think some kids et a certificate of some sort. Becky didn't get anything, but she was super thrilled anyway!

Just wanted to add....
If you see a CM just sort of hanging around near the sword, it's probably a good idea to have a friendly chat....
Other than that, I don't think there are specific times per se....

my kids had a we blast trying!!! we saw the kids before us get it out and i did see a cm lurking around but figured it may be more magical for the kids to keep trying next time!
