Pulling from PA

We are buying a 97 suburban, and are now considering FW instead of another resort...pulling 27 ft travel trailer from PA to FL...Does leaving early one morning to arrive late the next afternoon sound reasonable?

Depends on where you live in PA. We leave from Allentown early Saturday morning, hit Florence, SC about 4:30 that afternoon, spend the night at the KOA, get up early on Sunday and arrive FW about 2:30 in the afternoon. I generally don't go over 60 MPH when towing, stick to I95, take the bypasses around Richmond and Jacksonville, and avoid I4 by continuing on 95 to the Bee Line, so that should give you some idea of time.

We also stay at the Florence KOA....or at least we did! We stayed there last year and had a horrible time!! There was a problem with the electric at the site and it blew all the breakers in the camper!! My DH went to the desk and they sent the maintenace man over and they couldn't get the electric to work right at the site we were in and ended up running an extension cord from a different site into the window of the trailer so we'd at least have power!!

Wow, tough luck with the electric, always quiet. We almost always stay there on the way down and back, but it is strictly just a quick hook up of electric for the night and then on our way very early the next morning. The main attraction here for us is the location (a little more than half way for us and close proximity to I95) and the fact that the bathrooms are clean. We have stayed there every year for years, and seems to be a popular stop over for people on their way to or from FW.

Another choice for a place to stop is Santee State Park.

This is located on the south side of Lake Marion in South Carolina.

The park has two camping areas, one directly on the shores of the lake and another a short distance away. While some sites can be reserved, most can not. All sites have water and electric with a dump station in each campground.

The site boundaries are not well defined and a site can expand or contract as needed. The roads and parking areas of the sites are gravel.

While the focus of the park is fishing, bike and hiking trails are available. A short drive away is the Santee outlet mall along side I-95.

With I-95 crossing Lake Marion close by, vehicle noise can be heard in the distance at times. I did notice it but did not feel it was annoying.

Plus, you can't beat $16 a night for water/electric.

That is some good info to have. We will be pulling our Jayco Kiwi from Mechanicsburg to Ft Wilderness this coming June. We will be heading down 15 to 270 to 495 around the west of DC and then on to 95 South. I like the idea of the BeeLine to miss out on I4. When my sister was with Sea World back in the 70's and 80's we always called I4 "Suicide Highway". The last few times I drove it it had not improved much.

We have stayed many times at Point South KOA. That is at exit 33 I think in SC so it is pretty far down the state, for you coming from PA. That place is wonderful. As far as camping, FW is the place to go, it is so nice to stay in the World and still be able to go back and cook and feel like you are home.
