OK -- I can't believe that I am actually asking this --- but here goes. Has anyone ever snuck their child into the kids club with a pull up on? I know my 3 year old is going to want to go with his sister.........We tried to get trained for this trip, but it just didn't happen!!!!!!! I don't plan on leaving him for long periods of time..........

:cutie:They allowed my DD(3) in with her pullup, w/ the understanding that we would check on her every hour, so that's what we did! Ju

I waited to sign her up for the club until we were on board b/c I thought maybe I would put her in the Nursery, but once on board the CMs at the Nursery told us that even though the nursery is offered to age 3, she should really go to the kids club.

They allowed my son in with pullups for later evenings in case he fell asleep i dont know about during the day though as he was potty trained.

that's very interesting b/c they specifically told me (the Oceanear's Club manager) that my DD would NOT be allowed to come to the club in a pull up-that it had to do with health codes and no changing facilities (I wasn't asking them to change her-just want to be clear). I was panicked b/c I had not brought her any underwear-I just didn't want to take the risk of an accident. I thought pull ups would be a better option for them-if she did have an accident at least it wouldn't get everywhere. I had to purchase underwear in the gift shop for when I took her to the club. Granted, that was almost 8 years ago, but still. I'd say take underwear just in case-maybe it depends on the manager??
Best of luck!

DS was 4 and not yet pottie trained 100%. He has HF Autism. I took him in with pullups on and had no issues. They even called us 2 times during our cruise to let us know he had an accident. Kids have accidents all of the time, so they said. I did check on him very frequently, and took him pottie. So perhaps this helps. Is your child at all pottie trained?

Our little girl turned 4 on the cruise. She is pretty much potty trained but had started having accidents just prior to the cruise so we were nervous. We were told she needed to be in panties in the Oceaneer's Club but that if she came in at night she could be in a pull up in case she went to sleep on a mat. I told them that night (the night we had dinner at Palo's) that she was in a pull up and they said they'd check on her every 45 minutes. Our little girl never did go potty at the O. Club. She'd be about to burst when we checked her out and then I'd have to run her to the nearest potty outside the club because of the strange reason that I could not go with her into the restrooms in the club. Not even if there weren't any children in there. There were stalls, so I'm not sure of the reason why. I could understand if there were other kids in there but even when it was empty, one cast member didn't want me to go in. But we tried not to leave her in there for long periods of time and to be sure she went potty before she went in, so it wound up working pretty well.

FYI - I don't know why we were told OK and others were told 'no' for pullups.
We were on the Wonder in Feb 2010 on a very full ship due to Kids Sail Free promotion. I had asked in the port terminal when they were signing kids in for the Club whether DD(3) should do the Nursery of the Club, and they suggested I check them both out once on board since they won't let you do both.
:thumbsup2
The CMs at the Nursery encouraged us to go to the Club. We went to the Club during their Open House, had a short conversation with the CM who was signing families up, and overall was an easy process with no need for persuasion or negotiation. We were advised to check on DD every hour - they never followed up to make sure we did this, but maybe because we really did! DD had a great time and ended up spending a lot more time in the Club than we had intended! The CM's make it clear that they will not be helping children in the potty, so I am sure that they are not going to be checking any child's pants to see if they are wearing underwear or pullups!

I'm puzzled by the comment about the CM not wanting you to go into the restroom with your child. Unless they have remodeled the restroom, it is a "single person" place on the Magic, not a series of stalls...and parents were welcome to take their child to the restroom before dropping them off or when checking on them.

Unfortunately, there is a wide range of what is "allowed." The answers you'll get seem to depend on the CM, and do not always follow the written literature that DCL puts out. That said, the literature/web site, etc are not always consistent either!

We're seeing a lot more flexibility now than previously. Initially, kids in the Club had to be fully trained, which meant able to handle clothing, hand washing, etc. Pull ups and diapers were not allowed at all....then came OK in the late evenings, exceptions made for special needs kids, etc. Now it seems to be that almost anything goes, but the CMs are NOT able to change a child. You will be paged for an accident.

My suggestion--take your child to the restroom when you drop him/her off, and then check on him/her about once an hour...and take him to the restroom each time you check on him. That way, you avoid accidents and avoid clothing issues.

For ALL kids, take them to SEE the restroom the first time they go to the Oceaneer's Club. We think it's funny, but sometimes they don't think to ask if there is one....it helps them to know it's there and it's child sized!

The bathrooms in the OC on the Wonder are all stalls now.

Children are expected to go into the bathroom on their own with a CM standing at the door making sure they wash their hands before re-entering the group programs.

They are also expected to be able to pull up their own pants, do buttons, zippers etc. CMs are not suppose to be helping children in any "dressing" capacity as it is in their interest in case someone deems it inappropriate on their part.

If a child has an accident, they will give them a Friendship Rocks large t-shrt and a baggie to put their pants into but they are not allowed to assist child in getting out of the soiled clothing... but will put them into the bag for them with rubber gloves on.

Children with Special needs who are given the ok to wear diapers need to be checked on and/ toileted by the parent. They did close the bathroom off for 10 minutes on our last cruise in the OC while a parent changed their older child.

This being said... when we took my disabled child in 2001... I was told before we went on the cruise that someone would have to accompany her at all times. I even brought and paid for a caregiver... who ended up getting a free trip ... as my DD was accepted into the club without an aide. I only had to change and feed her... but they did everything else.

I used to work there.

They are not supposed to let anyone in if they are not potty trained. reason for this, the counsellors in the club are not trained by usph to change diapers if there is accident.
My advice to get around this is take your kid to the bathroom right before the club, put him in underwear and if he has a accident, they will just page u to pick him up (they will provide him clean shorts). and u will atleast have some time. Or chekc on him every hour or so and take him to the bathroom. Its easy for kids to get so distracted in there that they dont ask to go to the bathroom.

OR. sign them up once u get onboard and ask to speak to the MANAGER, not the assitant manager. Explain your problem, be really nice, and they will probably let it go, with the exception of if there is a accident u have to come and get them. We dont like to say no to people.

Great thread. My youngest isn't quite 3, but does well most of the time with the potty, but I was quite concerned that the excitement of the ship would be overwhelming and was planning to only bring pull ups. Her older sister (4) will definitely be in the OC and I felt so bad that the younger had to go to the nursery. I will see if she can stay in the OC as long as I check in every hour:goodvibes

We had the same experience with my DS last November. He had turned 3 just a few weeks before our cruise and was doing pretty good with the potty training, but we kept him in pull-ups, just in case. We actually made a reservation for him in Flounders while we were at Palo brunch, but when we went to drop him off, the counselor in Flounders told us she had cancelled the reservation and told us to take him to the Club instead. I am so glad she did! He had the absolute best time in the Club! My DH would just check on him every 1-1.5 hours and take him to the bathroom while he was down there. It worked out great for us!

My DS was not quite "a graduate of Big Kid's Central" yet when we cruised last Oct/Nov and we just waited until a safe time when he had recently gone, and only left him there a couple hours at the most, sans Pull-Ups. This worked well for us.
