pull down beds

Has anyone (or their children) used the pull-down-from-the-ceiling beds? I've looked at the pictures, and I can just imagine my 5-year-old wriggling his way out of that thing in the middle of the night! How big are they?

Also, I read somewhere that the cat 4's have a bed that folds out of the wall. How is this different, or are they talking about the same thing?

We've never been on a cruise, but are considering one for next summer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

They are about the size of a single bed. An adult can easily sleep in one and they are comfortable. They have a bedrail about 4 feet long, so unless your little one really rolls around a lot there would be little risk of falling out.

You are more likely to fall climbing the detachable ladder to get in or out of that bed.

We used the pull-down bed for our 4yo ds. A ladder is provided and you can ask your room steward for a rail. Ds had no problem and didn't fall out. I think he was so pooped at the end of the day that he slept through the entire night each night! HTH

The category 4 have a bed that pulls down from one wall (close to the sliding door/verandah). One bed comes down from the ceiling (like previous posters said... this has a long railing so the kids don't fall out). The couch also turns into a bed.

hi - on our first cruise when my kids were 5 & 7, they actually argued over who would sleep on the top "bunk" - i was also nervous so what i did - and would recommend to you - is that we kept the sheets & blankets tucked in & made them slide into the bed - so that if they rolled over - they would still be tucked in - we've been on five cruises since then - and they still argue over the bunk - i wouldn't worry too much - like was mentioned before - there's more problems w/the ladder than with the bed - have a great time!

We were on the cruise last summer, and we really liked the idea of the couch that folds down into a bed, and wanted to buy one for the house. Any ideas what its called or where we could find them?

thanx :)

We just got back last week with three kids (18, 13, 11). My 18 yo used the bed that pulled down from the wall, and my 13 yo and 11 yo used the bunk beds. Sorry, I don't know what "category" our room was ... the wife would know ... maybe someone else here can tell you. Our room number was 8020.

I was afraid of the same thing ... my 13/11 yo's both roam all over the bed when they're sleeping, and it sure looked like a long fall from up there! But they were fine. Maybe most people have a sixth sense about being on a bunk bed and don't fall out. Whatever it was, the beds worked out perfectly.

Category 4.

My daughter was in total amazement at the bed that came down from the ceiling. She called it the "magic" bed. We requested a pull down bed for all our other cruises. My DD is 5 now and she was 3 the first time we sailed. I was a little leary about having her up there, and she does move around, but she had no problems.

Go for the "Magic" bed.
