Publix - special occasion cakes?

My oldest DD was doing the DCP this year for her birthday. Three of her fellow CPs had birthdays within a couple week times so I ordered a cake for them from Publix. I actually called over the phone to order it and my daughter picked it up. It was beautiful & she said that it was delicious! It was a marble cake with fresh strawberry filling with butter cream icing. I asked for Disney colors and they did beautiful flowers writing all the kids name on it!

This is my favorite cake from Publix. When we are at WDW in June, I always go get one for my birthday cake. And if I can avoid eating it all in just a few days, it will last the entire week in the refrigerator.

The worst cake I had at WDW was one we ordered for our son's birthday at the GF shaped like Mickey Mouse. It cost $50 and was the driest thing I have ever eaten. Publix beat it hands down.

Mmmm the chocolate ganache cake, I've done the large one for my mom's birthday, but they also occasionally sell it by the slice. So, if you're down and it's not your birthday, you can still get by with cake. I've tried a lot of their specialty cakes by the slice ...

I had my wedding cake done by Publix (we got married at Shades of Green near the Magic Kingdom). We used the Publix back by the outlet mall and they were great. :)

But one slice?? I might as well get the whole cake and deal with it. :lmao:

Thanks for all the input everyone! Publix defintely sounds the way to go!

The decadent cakes sound soooo good but I really have my heart set on a 2 tiered beachy cake. I found some fabulous gum paste seashells on Etsy that I would like to have put on the cake as well as an etched cake topper on Ebay. I know we will never eat all the cake but if they can do each tier in a diferent flavor combination I will be sooo happy! Gives us a chance to try some different things. I'm not a big chocolate eater and neither are my boys so I think we would get one layer as carrot cake and one as the white cake with the fresh strawberries in the filling.

Speaking of the Orlando Publix, we usually go to the one by AKV but we are staying at BLT this time. Anyone have a suggestion as to which Publix would be the best one to go to?

I get all my cakes at Publix. We just had a month of b-days. DD went in and "designed" her cake. She choose one that had a 1/2 sheet on the bottom, a 7in round, and then a jumbo cupcake. We just ordered the round and the cupcake. In the picture it was green and purple themed. DD wanted it pink and brown. The lady was very accommodating. The only thing I had wished was the brown as a bit darker. But it was very pretty and yummy.

Our wedding cake (17 years ago) was Publix since we lived near one at the time. We had the vanilla cream frosting, white cake and raspberry seed filling. They no longer do the seed filling but will do raspberry jelly-type filling. I highly recommend it!
