Public transport Strike

I suppose thats a matter of opinion - purely from the angle that - after all it's Disneyland - there are going to be families out that with young children who are going to find that 30 minutes a bit of a struggle, especially the return journey when it's cold, dark and you've x number of tired children......

Yes this is a matter of opinion. And it won't be easy to have a 30 minutes walk with two cold children in the evening back to the hotel. But at least you are there.
Imagine you are in the middle of Paris/CDG/Orly with two children a stroller and a lot of big bags. And then the RER/Metro is only running every 30 minutes and 400 other people want to get into the same already stuffed RER/Metro with you. And you won't have a chance to get in with 2 children a stroller and a lot of bags. And you see no way how you can get to DLRP in the next 8 hours.
And then your children will ask the whole time: "But you promised we would go to Mickey today!"

If I had to choose between these two scenarios I would definitely take the one with the 30 minutes walk and the tired children. :) :wave2:

I am really stressing over these strikes! I am sorted for my travel from the airport to sequoia lodge, my friends have booked a taxi and it is paid for before hand so I am travelling with them but I will need to use the vea shuttle on tuesday to come back! Please can anyone confirm these are not affected, I have paid for my ticket through their website beforehand but as yet I havent heard anything.

And I suppose marcus if those people knew about the strike once they got there, they most likely wouldn't stay at the park until the bitter end ie exhaustion, but head back to the hotel earlier when they still had some energy.

I just was emailing with a colleague of mine and he says that currently it is taking most of his group twice as long to get to work. And he says 'c'est la vie!' to which I agree - once simply has to make the best of it.

The good news is that 'twice as long' isn't too bad; when there have been random strikes in past it often took people longer than that to reach work.

VEA is NOT affected, as posted earlier, but expect it to be VERY busy. You may want to check with your hotel the night before, and plan on taking an earlier shuttle in case the one you intend on taking is full.

I have checked the route from dlp to CDG airport and iot visits dlp then all the other disney hotels first before getting to sequoia lodge, would anyone recommend collecting our luggage and then walking over to the bus station at dlp before hand so at least then we are guaranteed a seat? Do hotels allow you to leave youre luggage at other hotels, example being if I need to get the bus at 2.15 rather than walk over to sequoia and back to the bus station with all luggage would I be allowed to drop my luggage off at the disneyland hotel and leave it there so i can get the bus from there instead?

You can email here

http://disneylandparis.com/uk/search/contact/index.htm

but it may be best to call.

HOWEVER please note that if you call or email today, nobody will be able to answer about the strike next Tuesday. They simply won't know what the status will be.

They should however be able to answer your question about luggage. I don't think that is an issue - just go to the luggage room and ask them to store your luggage.

well I did phone them and they didnt have a clue, they said it wont be possible to leave luggage at a hotel you arent checked in at!

we were at the explorers and the buses were on strike - so we walked to the disneyland park on monday - then coming back we got the bus to the santa fe then walked the ten minutes back to explorers.

when we had our luggae we got a cab from the explorers to the train station - it cost 12 euros.

Generally they will say that at most hotels as it is a security/safety concern; but in past people have reported being successful.

You could also use the left luggage counter at the train station, or the storage at the park. I have never used either, but maybe others here can help.

As someone who got back earlier this week I can confirm the queues for taxis at the Holiday Inn/Explorers etc area are huge. The pink Pep buses havent been running since Monday morning and it is possible to walk to Santa Fe and get a bus although the lines there are large as well. It's probably best to walk unless you have kids who arent really upto a 30 minute walk.

We maanged to get the RER to Val D'Europe there and back with only a small wait although we were probably just lucky, they were very busy.

The VEA bus we got on Tuesday only picked up at 3 hotels and it was almost full, I guess they were running an extra bus which picked up at the other hotel and the train station.

Hi detroitcity,

Did you have any extra delay once you were on the VEA ie did it take much longer than one hour to reach the airport? Just wondering how much busier the roads are in the area, and if that is causing extra journey time on the VEA?

Thanks,

Elaine

We were staying at the Santa Fe and did ask at Sequoia Lodge if we could store our luggage there on the day we checked out. The lady gave us a very firm no about that! Then again, if we hadn't asked, we probably could have just left it! They certainly just take your luggage off you without asking for any hotel ID at the Santa Fe!

Depending on how much stuff you have to transfer, you could just pick up your bags at Sequoia and head over to the Hotel New York, which is the third pick up after the Disneyland Hotel and the bus station.

I don't know if the strike was on on Monday, but we got on the 7.25pm bus at the Santa Fe and it was practically empty.

Has anyone used the vea shuttles to the airport before, how long roughly do they take, i know it is 45 minutes but add alot extra to that for collecting people and loading bags at each stop, it is just that the pick up times from the sequoia lodge and new york are both the same time 14.15

last time it took an hour from SL to CDG T1 including pick ups/drop offs

that is a fab Idea thanks, I will definitley do that, then I get to have a little tour round the other hotels I wouldnt of seen.

Hpow likely is it that there is no seats left on the bus anyways?

Roght on the vea site it recommends you take the bus 2 and a half hours before your check in time, how many of you would actually get the bus that early? My check in opens at 16.40 and I am planning on getting the 13.55 bus is this to soon or is it best to follow their guidelines?

It took about 1 hour 10 minutes for us getting off at Terminal 3, longer if your going to Terminal 1.

Thanks detroitcity.

Tetley I've taken the 3pm-ish VEA from the Santa Fe, and was at my check-in area at terminal 1 CDG a good hour before my check-in desk opened, because the journey only took 1 hour. However, from what detroitcity says, its possibly taking half an hour longer on the VEA due to the strikes going on in France right now.

We have used the train station. You have to pay 9€ for a bigger box. It is a little expensive but therefore you have you luggage right at the train station.
