Today at the Studio I was in the Men's Rest Room near the entrance and noticed a Sharps Container installed on the side of the metal trash bin under the paper towel dispenser. This is the rest room near the Photo Store and right across the street from Oscar's, the stroller/wheelchair/ECV rental location.

I wonder if this is a harbinger of things to come. Obviously I could not check the Woman's Rest Room next door.

I saw a couple in the women's rooms in September but it was more of an afterthought for me like "Oh..never saw one of those before". I didn't really pay attention to how many and where they were but its nice to see they're adding them as an option.

I noticed it too. Didn't think anything of it though.

they should have them- diabetes?

if there does happen to be a junkie at the park I would rather have them than sit down next to a garden bed and jab my hand on a needle

They've always had them in the First Aid stations but now that there's so many people using injection devices (for whatever reason) and the fact that they're becoming more portable like insulin pens, it makes sense to provide them all over the park. I believe in the past people who didn't use the First Aid stations would just carry the old needle around and dispose of it safely later.

As for junkies, I sincerely doubt if they're stupid enough to shoot up at Disney that they would be smart enough to think they needed to dispose of the needle safely.

We were down in October and I noticed one. I couldn't tell you which bathroom of which park though, sorry.

The only reason I even noticed it was because I heard a mom yell to her son, "Get your hand out of there!" It startled me and from what I could piece together, when the mom wasn't looking the boy had put, or tried to put, his hand in the Sharps container. She had him at the sink washing his hands and telling him that needles were in the container as I exited the restroom.

We were in WDW from Oct 24th to Nov. 6.
I did see sharps containers in every ladies room and Companion Restroom in every park I went to.

They are the same brand as we use in the hospital I work at. As long as people actually make sure the sharp went into the container and is not just sitting on the top, they are very secure.
The opening is called 'mailbox style'. Once something is placed on the too park, you flip a door over, which flips the item into the container. All the pathways that go into the container are too small for a hand.

Now that they are up, they need to get into practice of emptying them. They close automatically when filled, a blocking door that says 'Full' comes up and the inside container needs to be changed.
I saw a number of full ones, so they need to get that part all worked out.

I saw a lot of them in the ladies rooms on my last trip as well. And as Sue has already noted, a lot of them were full. Its nice to have - if I ever have to go back to more than once daily injections I'll like not having to carry the used needles around with me.

The one I noticed was in Epcot, in the women's restroom between Refreshment Port and Canada. It was full at the time (fairly late at night on 10/13/12) and the restroom was in the process of being cleaned, so I don't know if she'd empty the sharps container at the same time or not.

That would have been nice back when I was on multiple daily injections. I always had a couple of used syringes built up in my purse by the end of the day!

Just a little insider/side note information. The only Custodial staff that is allowed to actually EMPTY the sharps containers are the Coordinators/Managers. Regular hourly custodial is not given the proper training needed to empty these containers (I'm Seasonal Custodial).

Thanks.
That makes sense. In Healthcare settings, there are very many sharps containers, so there are many people who know how to change them out. Because they need changing frequently, the trained people get regular practice with changing them.
In a setting like WDW, there are many more custodial staff than there are sharps containers, so it makes a lot more sense to have a small number responsible for changing them.

I was surprised tonight to see that there isn't on in the companion restroom by the Fantasyland train station since it's new. But I did see it in one of the other ones.
