Pts. in holding on resale contract?

OK, we are closing right now on what we thought was a stripped contract.
Turns out when they did the point search w/ Disney today there are:

71 points available that will expire the end of September. 51 are holding points.

Can anyone explain what that means and what are my options.

We have been DVC for 2 years, but I have never needed to know about holding before.

Holding points can only be used to book a villa 60 days out. For you, that would mean anything available before October 1, for both of the types of points. I hope you find something and can go!

Points become "holding points" if you cancel a reservation within 30 days of a check-in date. Those points lose the ability to make reservations for check-in further than 60 days out.

Guess I should have read your post better I assume this Sept they expire, so for those points holding status is really a moot point.

This actually would mean ~November 1st (60 days)

Not in this case because they expire Sept 30.

71 points expire sep 2010 i assume.. That means either these are banked points which are expiring or they are points that are banked , if you bank the 71 points you get another year as banked points. The hold points sound like a vacation that was cancelled need more info or call customer service to get info.

What's the UY? That will clear it all up. If it's Sept, they expire on Aug 31 (today). If it's October, they expire Sept 30.

MS might allow you to use your once-in-a-lifetime-double-secret banking option, but I'm not sure I'd want to waste that for 18 points. Technically, those points can no longer be banked (if you had realized, you chould have had the seller bank the points), but MS will sometimes allow an exception to the banking rule.

I would try to get a reservation using those 71 points and use them in that fashion.
