PTR- Memorial Weekend Madness - Feeling the Force and Celebrating the 5th

I just bought my hubby a red lightsaber. He was more excited than I expected :)

And bought these sneakers for the kiddo. How adorable! So glad I saw these posted by another DISer. They make Vader noises.

So I learned today that you cannot downgrade tickets, which makes sense. I obviously jumped the gun buying park hoppers for such a quick trip. I am trying to arrange my schedule so that we get some use out of the hoppers but I don't want to be too stressed given the heat and crowds.

At most, we will probably use the hoppers two of the four days we are there.

So the trip is starting to feel more like a SWW focused event and not enough birthday celebration. To be honest, my hubby is really excited about SWW and I am just a sucker for a themed event. My DS is completely oblivious to Star Wars. We had the movies on all day and he didn't much pay attention. Disney Jr. is more his speed. So I need to figure out how to make it more about him.

Things I know he will love:
Disney Jr Live
M&G with Jake, Sophia, Little Einsteins and PLUTO. He has mentioned Pluto many times this week. He loves that dog.
Cupcakes!!
Trains (MK train is definitely on the list)

For the birthday celebration, so far I have the following planned:

  • Gift basket and balloons to be delivered our second day. Gift basket will come with a lightsaber
  • Ordered a birthday shirt (star wars theme) from Etsy
  • Some birthday goodies (star wars book bag, jake spy glass and birthday book)
I decided not to order a cake, but we will definitely seek out some yummy cupcakes in the park.

Super excited about snagging a later Galactic Breakfast ADR. My revised plan is to hit DHS @ rope drop on Saturday morning and head straight to Chewbacca. Then we can head over to our 9:25am ADR. This potentially means we don't have to hit rope drop the following day for this M&G. We can potentially get Chewbacca and Vader knocked out in one morning. The following morning, we could do Disney Jr. stuff and the animation class (for hubby!)

following along! my kids and I love SW and although I would love do to a SWW, it's not in the cards right now. We are planning a trip for early next year. Possibly in February. Last year we went in March. How did you find February? Temps? Crowds? I'm really leaning towards this for next year.

Hi there!

This will be our first time at SWW. To be honest, I am a bit nervous about the heat and crowds. I have gone to Disney twice in February and LOVE it!. We went twice during the second week of Feb. I think the key going in Feb is to avoid President's day weekend. Both times we got free dining. I followed the crowd calendars, choosing the most recommended parks, and following general strategies of getting there near rope drop to ride standby and then using FP later in the day. Certain rides will always attract a crowd later in the day (i.e. Soarin, TSM) but otherwise I thought the crowds weren't bad at all. Temps were great....warm enough to go swimming but not oppressive. Can only remember rain impacting our trip on one day during our 2013 trip. We didn't go in Feb this year, because we went to Aruba in January.

I am nervous about our upcoming trip because I don't think I have gone to Disney during more than a 5 or 6 level crowd max (per easy wdw crowd calendar) and during Memorial Day weekend, I see level 9 forecasted! We are also going to the least recommended parks (DHS during SWW!). Wish us luck.

All that to say...I highly recommend February.

Thanks for your input!

The SWW sound amazing and I really hope you post pictures! Although the estimated crowds sound super high, all the SW fun should make up for it.

P.S. love the vader shoes! too stinking cute

So for the past couple of weeks, I have been dealing with some behavior issues from my kiddo. He is almost five, but has been throwing these toddler like tantrums and just being really defiant at school and home. Not sure what's driving it but it needs to stop. He better get it together before our trip!

The latest planning details I am obsessing over is how to prepare for the heat!. Our past trips have always been in February, so this hasn't been an issue before. So now I am looking for water misting fans, cool, light-weight clothes for kiddo and hubby, and strategies for staying cool. We have mid-day breaks planned for Saturday and Sunday, but Friday, all our FP are booked for afternoon at MK (between 2 and 6pm). We arrive in Orlando that morning and will go to hotel first to check-in. We definitely want to go to MK first and I want to get out of the park by 6pm as it is the 24 hour day and big crowds are expected.

I think you can change them as long as you haven't used your passes yet. If anything i think it would be easy to upgrade to park hopper rather than downgrade from park hoppers.

Nothing new to report on my trip planning. Tonight I am looking at pictures from our trip last year. We did one night at AOA and then four nights at Poly. I think we stayed at AOA just so I could take pics :)
