It says in my guide book that you can only ride this with a child no taller than 56''. I have a 12 year old who is very tall for her age. Does anyone know how strict they are with the height limit?

If you head back to the Flyers first thing in the morning before there are lines, I don't think you would have any problem. I think I've seen two adults riding without a kid early in the morning, and the people staffing the ride have said nothing.

Thanks bellelinus! We will do that

First thing is the way to do it. If not 1) they are strict about it and 2) the lines get fairly outrageous for this ride due to capacity issues.

i go solo and have ridden this ride.

the only way an adult solo can ride it is if you are there before 10:30.
last year the attendent had the cut off time at 10 as there were many in line when i went.

go before 10 to be sure you can ride it.
it's kewl

It all depends on the crowds. If its a really busy day (example Mardi Gras) then they will cut it off before 10. I've seen it as late as 12 with adults riding it. Just all depends on the line. Once it hits that 30 minute mark, thats pretty much it. And I dont really seeing it being worth it much past that point. I mean sure its a cool little ride and you do see quite a bit, but.....90 seconds?

90 Seconds after a 30-plus minute wait?
...exactly why my kids, age 13 and 15,
voted this the most lame ride in the park. Oh well, they loved pretty much everything else at IOA. Younger children perhaps will more enjoy this short little ride in the sky, if the line is reasonable.

My 5 year old DD begged me to ride this last weekend. The wait said 45 minutes and they were not lying. All other rides had short waits if any wait at all. We got all the way to the front and were about 10th in line and it broke down!!!!! I could have screamed!!! UGH! :crazy2:

The ride isn't lame but the wait is. This ride is so slow loading (twice as slow as Dumbo) that Universal came up with this ****-eyed rule that you have to ride with a kid. The Adventure Guide actually says it is designed for kids (bull). The ride scares the be-jeezes out of many grown ups. If you get there in the first half hour after opening they usually let you ride and even re-ride if noone is queued.

As a mum to 3 young children I have always been disappointed with the way this ride is operated.
The attendants are always quick enough to check the childrens height if they look like they are too small to ride. Which I think is good they are doing there job and being safety conscious.
However on this ride it infuriated me that despite their being notices up that you must have a child under a certain height the ride attendants continuously allow teenagers and even worse adults on their own.
If my children cannot go on a ride as they are too small why then should adults on their own be allowed on this ride!!
My youngest was hardly able to any of the rides and this was one she could easily do but we had to queue for 45 minutes to do it. The time would have been halved if they stuck to rules and disallowed these people.Sorry if anyone takes offence but I really feel that it is about time they cracked down on the blatant abuse and let the people who the ride is intended for get the use of it without having ridiculous wait times due to inconsiderate adults.
You would complain if people cut in in front of you having queued for ages in the heat. I don't see this as being any different!!

I have children under the height requirement (so I suppose I could complain about bigger kids/adults riding) but I have always chosen to head back to the Flyers early in the day (after doing Hulk and Spiderman, getting there about 30 minutes after the park opens) because they don't have Express and the loading time is so slow. I would say that anyone who would like to try the ride should just try to get there early in the day and reduce the frustration . . .

That is what we have been doing heading to that ride before anything else. But WHY should we have to do that . If the rules were adhered to we could and should be able to it when we want without having to queue for ridiculous amounts of times. We are never there peak season we always go during term time when there are no major holidays.!
