PTA luncheon, how is it paid for?

All of the PTA teas, brunches or luncheons that I have attended were prepared by the teachers, admin. and staff of the school as a way to thank all of the volunteers.

Holy Cow! I was PTO president or VP for 10 yrs straight and we had a healthy budget and NEVER did anything to that extreme. We did a great Teacher Appreciation luncheon every year with door prizes but for our volunteers, we did hand written thank you notes and a donated small annual plant in a pot that we decorated ourselves or gift certificates for an ice cream cone (donated as well). Our school had parents with very modest means and an over the top thank you would not have gone over well.

We worked hard to for the money we raised and felt it all should go back directly to the school for things such as playground equipment, assemblies, classroom materials!

Pearls and Tiaras...could have been way more fun IMHO if they had received $1 store kids jewelry and had silly photos taken lol....a lot of potential for a theme like that if you think outside the box!

That could not be done in our schools- you can not bring in homemade food for anyone other than yourself- children, staff and parents....you can not make a dish of food and bring it in to share- it is against the wellness policy. If anything is brought in as a party or even teachers appreciation week it must be purchased and made by an outside licensed food vendor.

FWIW, in our school district there is no such thing as a PTA luncheon. Each school does host a Volunteer Luncheon to show appreciation to all of the schools' volunteer. This is paid for by the teachers and staff. They usually get a little money from the local union (less than $100) and the staff donate food for the lunch. NO money comes from the fundraisers! That would not be ethical at all!

Wow, that is soo far over what we do here.
The teachers pony up the $$ for the Parent Volunteer brunch because they are throwing it in appreciation of all the volunteers do for the school. The parents association doesn't throw themselves a party.
Anyone who volunteered for anything-an hour at the book fair, class parent, field trip chaperone, anything like that gets invited and they have bagels and fruit and muffins and pastries and they give everyone a little token of appreciation like a water bottle with the school's name on it or an insulated lunch bag, etc.
It's fun, low key.

We do an installation lunch--I've been to lots of them, but we pay for it ourselves. You get an invitation that thanks you for volunteering, asks you to rsvp by date X and send in your check. We keep it low cost, but not a dime from general funds.

I'd ask someone, better to know than to just worry about it. And if it came out of general funds, I'd probably suggest that it not be in next year's budget, but that's just me. Budgets are generally approved at the first meeting of the year....

I am our PTA treasurer.... why?? because I wondered where all the money was being spent! so watch out asking questions

seriously.. ask to see the budget. If the PTA paid for it, I would imagine it would have be a budgeted expense.

We do not have a volunteer luncheon, the teachers host that. We do have teacher appreciation and have a budget for that.
