It's that time of year again for fundraising and more fundraising. Each year a classroom has to put together a giftbasket centered around a theme to sell at a silent auction during the town's local festival. I've got a few ideas, but the seem a little generic so does anyone have some ideas? :confused3 I would be greatful for any suggestions before I narrow it down to three and give it to the class to vote on.

We've done this before...here are some we've done..
-BBQ/Grill theme..include aprons, cookbooks, grill tools, BBQ sauce, etc.
-A Day at the Beach...include towels, a novel or two, sunscreen, umbrella, shovel and pail, etc.
-LSU (or any college)- college mementos, themed merchandise
-Saints (or any NFL team)- same as above
-Computer basket...this one could include paper, kids' games, etc.
-Baby basket...all the goodies to go along with a baby; i.e. bottles, diapers, bibs, toys, g.c. to Babies R Us

Edited to add; How could I forget? We did a Disney basket & it was a HUGE seller! We included Disney store items, Disney Dollars, guide books, Mickey ears, etc.

Also, we did a Hot Wheels theme and a Barbie theme.

How about a scrapbook basket? Paper, stickers, a couple different sissor patterns and/or punches? Maybe a book or magazine?

One year I bought a "bathroom" basket. It was really quite clever...everything you'd need in a bathroom from the toothbrush/paste to bubble bath. Plus some great towels. Probably not for everyone, but I liked it.

There's always the winner baskets...coffee basket, pasta basket, baking basket. Those are always popular at our church auction.

Let's see:

Ice cream basket with dishes, toppings, spoons, etc. maybe an ice cream maker depending on what the price on the basket is supposed to be, maybe a gift card to local grocery store for ice cream

Movie night - a few family oriented dvds, popcorn, candy and if you can get it cheap enough an inexpensive dvd player

scrapbooking theme is always popular

webkinz basket with a bunch of webkinz

back to school basket with all sorts of stuff, pencils, erasers, notebooks, calculators, etc.

Family game night with an assortment of games and maybe some popcorn

Housecleaning basket - in a laundry basket, all sorts of cleaning products (can always use that)

An american girl basket (I do this for our school's basket auction) with a doll. I did Nikki this year with the hat and the dog.

A boy type basket with lots of matchboxes, race cars, etc.

Photo basket - bunch of frames, photo albums and disposable cameras, can even toss in a developing gift card to wal-mart.

Can you tell our school does a really big basket auction every year?

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more ideas.

Oh these are good! I'm going to use the BBQ one for our next church auction!

On that note, you could do a recipe book basket too. Or even just a book basket. A kid book basket would be cool! Especially if you could find a stuffed animal or two to match your books!

Good ideas! Wal Mart just had a DVD player on sale for $25!

Thank you so much for the suggestions! They were really great and can't wait to get started and hopefully get the kids involved in the basket. Keep them coming I'm sure I'm not the only mom on here who does one of these.

We also do one at our annual PTA spring festival. Most have been mentioned but here's a few more...

Pet basket, we did two, one for a dog and one for a cat instead of a generic one.

It's a Girl thing. It was filled with princess stuff, girly school supplies, nail polishes, perfumes and more.

It's a boy thing. sports stuff, hot wheel cars, boy school supplies and more.

Mom and Dad's night out. Restaurant GC's, movie GC's, 3 hours of babysitting by the principal and Vice-principal. This was a huge hit!

Camp out! we set up a tent instead of a basket, put out a whole bunch of camping suplies with it. This was also a hit.

Oh, just remembered another one no one mentioned.

Hurricane supply basket, this had flashlights, batteries, lanterns, candles, radios, cases of water, canned foods, GC's for gas stations, and more.
Not sure if this applies where you live, maybe you can make it into an emergency care kit.

we did holiday baskets with decorations to whatever holiday is coming up last year.

weekend getaway baskets if you have a source for overnight stays

popular character baskets, I don't know whats popular now because my kids are older, but I know when they did things like Pokemon it was huge

Last year I did a search here and found a great list! I don't remember exactly what I searched, but I guess you could try "basket" and see what you get.

From the list I chose "sleepover basket." I ended up doing two for the class, one boy and one girl. They came out really cute and the girl one sold high, the boy one not so much. I wanted to do it generic, but it was way cuter to do this.

The girl...I got a fuzzy pillow and blanket from Limited Too. A twister game, disposable camera, nail polish, candy, popcorn, soda, and some other stuff.

Boy basket...a sleeping bag, tent for two, flashlights to strap on your head, card games, football, candy, popcorn, soda and some other stuff.

Good luck!
Katy

What a wonderful fundraising idea! I think I may even use some of these ideas for gift giving myself. :thumbsup2

Another idea

Spa/mom basket: Candles, relaxig music cd, oils, creams, brushes, chocolate, gift certificates etc.

Myst

I love this idea!! I think I'm going to steal it for our auction. Thanks.:)

Gardener Basket-put in gardening gloves, the small gardening tools, seeds, a small watering can, a package of Miracle Grow, a cute flowerpot, a cute garden hat or visor, those little stakes you put in the ground to mark what plants are where.

All-American Basket-find red, white and blue stuff or stars and stripes stuff. This is a nice one because you are sort of doing it around a color, so everything doesn't have to match a theme as much as the color....you can do red paper plates, white napkins, blue plastic silverware, a red candle, some red & white or blue & white or red, white & blue striped tea towels, some little cute thing (maybe a candle holder) with stars on it...as long as the thing fits the color scheme/ stars & stripes theme or even an "Americana" theme, you can put it in there.

Patio Basket-probably a good one to do now because this stuff is all on sale...nicer plastic (not throwaway) plates, cups, plastic wineglasses, those wineglass rings to mark people's wineglasses, some summery napkins, a jar of summer salsa and a bag of chips. If you can find a summery plastic platter, put it all on that instead of in a basket..or put it in a plastic ice bucket that can be used on the patio.

Autumn Basket-pick things with autumn colors/designs...I did one of these for a fundraiser last year and got everything at the Christmas tree Shop...it had mulling spices for cider, little paper plates with leaves on them, a small loaf pan with pumpkins on it, a Harvest scented candle, 2 coffee mugs with autumn leaves on them, a bag of fancy cookies. If you have a farm in your area that does hayrides maybe a gift certificate for that.

Hot Chocolate Basket-Fancy hot chocolate, cookies, mugs, little plates, peppermint sticks for stirrers.

Christmas Basket-you could do a variety of Christmas stuff or pick a specific "Christmasy" thing and do everything in that (like candy canes, reindeers, gingerbread people, Santas). Or do a "gold ornament basket" or a "red and green" basket. Ornament baskets are neat because you hang a couple of the ornaments off the basket handle so they dangle inside...that's very eye-catching.

Hanukah Basket-fill it with Hanukah-themed items.

Halloween Basket-if the auction will take place before Halloween. If not make it a Thanksgiving or Christmas basket.

Winter Basket-if you want to be really "PC" and not technically do Christmas, then do a winter theme with snowmen and snowflake themed stuff. I did one of these last year too for that fundraiser...again, found snowflake plates, cups, napkins, placemats, little hors d'ourvres forks, snowflake shaped candles at Christmas Tree Shop.

I love doing baskets. If I could figure out a way to make it a business, I would.

Our school does this and there is always a scrapbooking basket and it is always very popular. Of course we also have both a Clemson AND USC basket. :)

Besides many of the above baskets, a board game basket is always a hit at our actions.

Lots of different board games. Parents like it cause they can break it up for all those b/day parties their child gets invited to. ;)

I love anything that has certificates for local restaurants. You could do one that is a day of eating. Start with a bagel shop for breakfast, then a deli for lunch and then someplace for dinner (it could be a pizza place or a diner, Boston Chicken, whatever fits in the budget). You could even throw an ice cream place in for dessert!

When I saw you response it struck me, because not many people on the boards would know the Clemson/USC thing or that it didn't reside in California. I noticed you're from SC and wondered what area your from I was told by a few PTA moms that they lurk these boards from time to time.
