Hey all,
I am going to be a junior psych major in the fall. I hope to do the CP at some point in my college career.
Are there any psych majors out there who have done the CP?
Here are my three basic questions:

1. Did you chose your preferred role based on your career goal?

2. How did the program help you in our major?

3. Did you have any problems getting permission from your school to go?

Thanks in advance,
Kaitlin :wizard:

I am a psych major and have applied with my school to go next Spring. I want to do something with children and I love children, so it seemed like an obvious fit for me! I think that there is a lot of psychology that is used in the parks, from the way the lands are laided out to the advertisements Disney uses. There is so much that can be related. I believe that no matter what your major is this internship would look good on your resume. They also offer courses that specialize in some areas that pertain to psychology. I hope that this helped!

Princess Jen,

I am also a psych major wanting to work with kids. I will be a junior this fall. I chose psychology because I love kids and want to make a difference in the lives of kids with chronic illnesses.

After I graduate, I would like to work with kids and teens in the hospital as a Child Life Specialist. Child Life Specialists try to make a stay in the hospital as normal as possible. They do this by providing crafts, games, therapeutic play, special events, and other fun activities.

I absolutely love Disney and have been to WDW 12+ times. I hope to go on the CP before I graduate. Ideally, I would love to have a role in one of the childcare facilities at the resorts (i.e. Neverland Club @ the Poly).

Just out of curiosity, what psychology related classes does Disney offer?

Take care and have a magical day,
Kaitlin

I saw your post earlier, but I didn't think my answer would be pertinent to your question, but I will respond anyway because I am a psych major myself. :)

I will be entering my senior year this August, and I have been a psychology major ever since I came to college. I have been thinking a lot lately about my passion for doing the CP, and I would like to do it the semester after I graduate, which would be Fall 2007.

Currently, I am planning to apply to nursing school this fall, but I would be willing to delay those plans a bit to do the CP.

My school lets people in any major do the CP, and they do presentations at our school every semester.

I'm a psychology major, also interested in possibly doing the CP. I will be a junior in the fall. I feel that with my career goal my time could be better spent, and I have pretty much decided not to do it. I did know a psychology major who did the CP and he was perfectly fine, however his goals are different than mine.

I am interested in cognitive neuroscience (my minor) and I am hoping for a career in either clinical neuropscyhology or research. I may still do the CP but I just can't rationalize it.

Kaitlin- I used to volunteer at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia doing something like that (not actually being able to provide therapy though). I enjoyed it alot, as did my supervisor (a child life specialist).

hey! i did a cp in the spring of '06 and went back and spent a year at school before i graduated with my degree in psychology and business and my experience in disney was IMMENSELY helpful and relatable to all of my courses. i worked at the brown derby in the studios as a full service hostess/gt. working in disney you not only meet guests from all over the country and the world, you also live with people from all over and completely different backgrounds than yourself and work side by side with people from around the world. i strongly feel that you will never find yourself in a more diverse environment than when in walt disney world, ever. i wrote numerous papers this year about my experiences on the cp and found having that experience extremely helpful in my psych classes. the trick is you need to realize this early and while at work and in your apartment and all, really try to learn about the people you are around. the experience is what you make of it, i went because i'm a disneyaholic and just wanted to live there (and now that i've graduated i'm going back to work in guest relations...) and getting all the disney perks and getting to work there was awesome, but i just didn't expect the rich diversity of age, race, geographical, socioeconomic, religion, sexuality, etc. that i'd be exposed to working there. on my phone interview i told them i wanted a position that involved heav guest interaction, like something where i could REALLY talk to the guests, not just ask them how many people were in their party. i loved loved loved meeting people from everywhere, including someone that lives on my street in my small PA town. in addition, though, if you branch outside of just talking to college kids, the people that work at disney, generally, have pretty crazy stories. you'll son learn that hardly anyone that lives in orlando grew up there... if you start talking. overall, an overwhelming YES!!!! this is an extremely helpful nriching experience to go along with your psych degree, if you capitalize on the opportunity and really take in what you can.

p.s. it's a blast... the college program thing. do it, do it, do it, do it! you won't regret it. and everyone thinks it's cool when you tell them what you've done. :rotfl:
