PSE element help-make shapes out of photos

I know it is probably really basic, but i have never had to do it until now. How do i take a photo and make a shape out of it? ie-star, circle etc. Is there an easy way?

You can use the Cookie Cutter tool (little star on the toobar); to make shapes of pictures use the solid shapes. I've found it easier to make a very small shape, click on the constrain proportions and then resize and position rather than trying to do it all at once.

The easiest way for me to make a shape out of a photo that is going on a digital scrapbooking page is to make the shape using the custom shape. Then use the shape like a template piece.
So you put the photo layer of the shape and in PSE control + G to make the photo take the shape of the layer under it.
