PSA: Wear your seatbelt

My 8 yo dd and I were in a major car accident yesterday. The other driver, while on his cell phone, ran a red light and hit our car in the driver's front panel. It spun us around. DD was in her booster seat and I had my seatbelt on. We are both okay, I have a bruise on my shoulder and my neck is sore. DD is traumatized but physically fine.

The pixie dust was with us yesterday. From what we heard from people on the scene, including the fire dept and the state trooper - our car is totaled.

We are lucky and I'm still in shock. The seatbelts and airbag defintely helped us.

One more note - at least 5 people stopped to help and stay with us until ems arrived. One lady, a nurse, came over to our car and got dd and I out. She smelled gas near our car and helped us to the nearby grass. We had 3 people who submitted witness statements. The help of strangers was humbling.

OMG How terrifying! So glad that you and DD are going to be ok. Geesh, put the damn phone down and drive!

Nice to hear that others were so wonderful in helping.
I wish Ohio would go to hands-free cell phone use in the very least.

I can't tell you how many people I see driving on cell phones and even worse, texting. People I even know make a joke texting and driving and "seeing how well their brakes work". Not funny.

Sadly, there are people who think their phone conversation is more important than other peoples' lives. If that was false, they wouldn't be on the phone while driving.

OP, I'm really glad you're OK. That could have been baaaad.

I am very impressed that your 8 yr old was in a booster seat. So many people wouldn't put a child that age in a booster, even though she needed it, because she's "too old." Physics doesn't care how old you are, physics cares how big you are, and if you don't properly fit in a seatbelt designed for adults, your age will not save you.

I'm glad that no one was hurt. I wish someone would come up with a better means to keep driver's attention on the road.

If it was up to me, the driver would be charged for attempted murder. But, it's not luckily for him and others.

DD is little, only 48 lbs. She loves her little seat. It's just one of those backless boosters. We even took it with us on vacation for the rental car.

The other driver was cited...not sure for what. His car is undrivable as well.

Dh & ds went to our car to look for my glasses. They were knocked from my face and were under the pasengers seat, unharmed. They took pics. The front end of my car is a mess. The guess is that the car will be totalled.
