PSA: Walmart Receipt Checking

Here's the problem with your plan to ignore the greeter and have WalMart call the police, rather than to take a few minutes to straighten out the confusion: You don't have a reciept.

When the police speak to you about the issue, you can't prove that you've made the purchase. This is going to lead to hours of your life wasted getting this straightened out. Heck, it could actually lead to your arrest and conviction on theft charges.

You don't need a receipt for something you own. You don't need to prove your innocence. They would have to prove your guilt and again, they would not have a leg to stand on.

These things have been argued in court and the law is with the consumer.

Another Retail lifer who is a total cynic when it comes to security issues.

Maybe it wasn't you that they were watching for, we are talking about a lot of new and temporary hires. To me an item in a bag means squat, every year I see at least three new employees bag things up and not ring up for friends. The cahsiers might not have any clue that they were checking receipts.

And it was Black Friday, all bets are off when it comes to normal retail behavior.

Just gotback from food shopping at Walmart. A WHOLE cartload of groceries and when the cashier handed me my receipt I ALMOST put it away...then I remembered this ridiculous thread and just held the receipt in my hand for the extra 10 second walk past the greeter, just in case they were checking.

They were not. Then I stuffed the receipt in my purse. SUCH an inconvenience.

I've had them check the cat litter and cat food I've bought. I just keep the ticket in my hand until I get outside, then put it into my pocket. No biggie.

Actually if you are trying to walk out of a store with something, you do need to be able to prove purchased it. Sure you would be able to prove it , but it would take lots and lots of time.

People are not just allowed to stroll out of stores with merchandise in their hands.
