PSA - Please pay attention to what your body says to you

I haven't posted this for a while. But I want to get the message out there. If your body starts to do something unusual, please pay attention. Mine did this to me 5 years ago and I ignored it for a while. Turned out I had rectal cancer. Well, 4 3/4 years after I was diagnosed, I am cancer free for 4 1/2 years and enjoying life. Just had a colonoscopy on Friday as a regular follow up since I was diagnosed prior to age 50. I HATE the prep for colonoscopies, I've had 5 in the past few years. But it is the BEST diagnostic tool and preventer of rectal and colon cancer. An evening of unpleasantness is worth your life. And my dr. gave me the all clear. And I don't need another one for THREE years. Yippee!!!

As far as the test itself, they give you FANTASTIC drugs. They put the drugs in the IV, I rolled onto my side and the next thing I remember I was waking up in the post procedure room. I hadn't slept well the night before and needed the good nap.

Totally agree, I didn't know and still don't know if I fell asleep during one!

That is great news.

I think the one thing I would pass on to people is YOU are your best advocate. A number of years ago I found a lump in my breast and at first left it to my doctor to make the proper appointments for what was needed. First step a sonogram, 2 weeks after my first appointment. Then I get the call uhm, we need to look at this further we are going to schedule a mammogram we'll be in touch. They scheduled me for 6 weeks out. That's when I took control, knew my insurance and was into a breast care center that very week. Turned out to be nothing, thank goodness. But I did learn that you are your own best advocate.

My sister is 32 years old. In April when she was still 31 she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Breast cancer can strike at any age. She has one more treatment after tomorrow.
