inside the vehicle at all times. Seriously.

During our recent trip (just got back tonight!) we saw at least one and possibly two injuries due to people not following that very simple rule.

Last night my dd and I were enjoying our last night in Disney. We wanted to ride BTMRR again but it was shut down. I asked the CM how long, and she said "temporarily." DD asked, "Why is the ride down?" (She's five, so she can get away with being nosy.) The CM said, "Because some people don't follow the rules". DD asked, "What rule did they break?" The CM replied, "They didn't keep their hands in the ride vehicle." I said, "That's how people get hurt", and the CM nodded with a very grim look on her face.

The other occasion we were waiting in line for the princess fantasy Faire, and noticed a commotion in front of the train station. A very tiny boy, maybe three, was screaming and his mom was holding him. There were some disney suits milling about, and a woman there wrapped his hand, but EMT's came pretty quickly and took the little boy away. My DH had walked past on his way back from the restroom with DS and said that there was a lot of blood. They reopened the train shortly after the EMTs left.

So seriously, people, keep your hands in the car. I don't care if I can't ride something, but no one wants to get injured- or worse, for their kids to get hurt.

Other than that, our trip was fabulous. Pics and trip report as soon as I get some sleep!

eew, nasty...

That's why I can't put my hands in the air while riding space mountain :rotfl: Who knows what's coming infront of you!?!

My friends and I used to joke that really tall people would smack their heads on some crossbar on SM, and we dared not raise our hands, and if we did, we would keep our elbows down, because we were sincerely afraid that someone would lose a limb.

Mouse Tales and online sites mention a dude who got his ring finger caught in a rivet on Bobsleds and lost the finger. There are now gates on many rides because of incidents like the Big Thunder Mountain ride where a kid crossed the yellow line.

One guy was sitting across from em on the canal boats and the CM said to him to remove the backpack. He was staring off at the landscaping and finally I touched the strap on his back pack and told him to remove it. His kid stood up on the ride later and again that blissful far away look. I said to sit down and he looked at me then made the kid sit. It was like the CM did not exist or was part of the songs and lapping water just ambience and not someone to listen to.

Did the little boy get his hand caught in the gate at the train station? That’s not the first time that I’ve heard of that happening.

I don’t understand why people don’t follow those kinds of rules. Disney puts them there for a reason, for everyone’s safety. I think parent’s should also be keeping an eye on their children who don’t fully understand the rules or are not obeying them.

BTMRR was shut down while we were actually on the ride last week for the same reason. The CM was very honest that someone didn't obey the safety regulations and that causes the ride to be shut down for probably the next hour. We had to walk off the ride. The safety rules are there for a reason and I don't understand why people try to bend them

When we were there we made a big deal to our DD to follow all the rules. She asked a few times why she couldn't cross the yellow line and we would explain that she could get hurt. I have seen many people not follow all the rules because they think they can't get hurt.

So scary! I am glad the only injuries my kids got were a few bumps on the noggin. My oldest tended to find quite a few corners.

not disney realated but once when i was like 4 i got y head stuck between some bars on the second floor in the montebello mall :lmao: i remember like it was yesterday.... and no they did not have to remove the bars to get my head out :headache:

What REALLY bothers me is when people choose to ignore the rules, then sue when they get hurt. We were waiting to watch Fantasmic once, we saw a man sitting on a railing. A CM told him THREE TIMES that it was against the rules. Predictably he fell off and hurt himself. As the CM helped him, he spouted loudly that he should sue DL.

Unbelievable....

Just your hands? I go through the entire ride ducking my head for this very same reason. Im always afraid somethings going to hit me. :scared1:

Thats truly unfortunate people can't seem to follow the rules. They are there for a reason.

Canal boats and dude has a backpack. Everything the CM guy said went over the dude's head. I had to point to the backpack strap to get the dude to take it off. Dude's kid stands up and boat stops and again we wait for the CM then me saying sit down the kid. The dude never once responded to the CM.

Tram stops because of a jogger in the tramway. Tram stops because people stand up. Tram stops because stroller flies off the tram. Tram stops because of balloons hanging out of the trams and blocking the driver's view. People sticking body parts out of the tram so tram stops.

About 5 years ago the old monorails would get wapped by tree limbs over the park entrance and another spot. Please watch out for the tree .... They did not listen and more than one ouch was heard.

Please watch your kids and do not leave them on the rides, seen that happen on Alice. Girl got her fingers crunched in a turnstile as mommy left her on the ride.

thanks for the info! sad story, i hope the little boy is okay. we're always really careful to obey safety rules while in the parks but i'm not sure i've ever even thought about the kids getting their fingers caught in the gates. that sounds horrible!

i'm one of those parents who CANNOT STAND when other parents won't supervise their children adequately. i hate it anywhere, but especially at disneyland. my 4 kids know not to step onto the yellow lines ("not even your toes", i tell them), or stick their arms and legs outside the boats/cars, etc. how horrible would that be to be at your favorite place in the world, only to have to leave with an awful injury and scary memories? :sad1:

as closely as i watch my kids and enforce safety rules, we had a scary moment at disneyland once. as we stood in line for the Casey Jr. Circus Train, my youngest who was 2.5 was just standing calmly with us in line (i don't let my kids even stand on the bottom bar of the railings or anything like that, they have to keep their feet on the ground). in a split second, he managed to wiggle his head through the bars of the railing! we were able to get him out after just a few seconds, and it turned out to be one of our funnier family stories, but truthfully, it was really scary for a minute there. so, even for those of us who really are diligent in supervising our children in the parks, things can (and do) happen. needless to say, all of the kids now know not to poke their heads between the railing bars, lol!

Sucks the kid had to get hurt to learn. Maybe he spoke another language other than English or Spanish?

I wonder if it was that gate. The gate slides open, but it doesn't really look like it will, especially to a kid without the experience to think "that fence looks like maybe it's possible a gate that will slide open to let us in...afterall, how else will we get in?". We were waiting there in December and there were several kids treating it as a normal fence, and one kid stuck his hands on/in it just as the conductor came over to open it. Thankfully he saw the kids and told them to move...but if another kid were to come running up just as the conductor opened it, I can see that someone could get hurt!

So I wonder if that's what happeend.

What's odd is that I was on BTMM the night of the OP's experience, and I guess we were on it before or after, but there was no problem for us.

Tram also stops because parents put their small children on the outside of the tram, tram attendant makes the parent trade places with the child, parent complains because she wants to "sit next to my boyfriend" ummm, I want to sit by mine too but we deal with it, and my kids are 9 & 12!!

Yes, but this is why the rules are stated in all different languages.

People who don't pay attention tick me off to no end.........we were walking to the WoD store, I was walking with DD9 and DBF was with DD12 a bit ahead of us, some guy in a stroller SLAMMED into the back DD12s legs giving her scratches and he didn't even look at her.....I kept looking at him waiting for him to acknowledge her but he didn't, he DID look at me and I said "You need to apologize" he shrugged and kept walking.....what a jerk, had he paid attention it wouldn't have happened.
