Just received a nasty shock in the mail. A bill from Alamo for $25.75. The .75 was the amounted of the toll we "allegedly" missed, and then they charged a $25. admin fee!

I called Alamo to complain because I am certain that we paid all our tolls, however, it never occured to me to hold up traffic and wait for a receipt. As a result, I have no proof we paid. The Alamo rep was very sympathetic because she said that the charges out of Florida "have quadrupled in the last month!!!"

The explaination they received from SunPass when they questioned the sudden increase in fees is that they are moving some of their tolls booths, and so some of them actually look like exits. It is possible that when we exited it, we just stayed in the far right lane and didn't realise we had to pay a toll first. We have travelled to Florida several times, and knew we had to pay tolls. I had small bills and change in my hand ready. I just want everyone to have a heads up to be extra vigilant when using the toll roads and as inconvenient as it is, stop and wait for a receipt, especially if you have a rental. They will pay the bill without contacting you and then hit you with an admin fee.

I don't get their explanation. Rates out of Florida have trippled. What does that mean? the 0.75 is the fee for the toll. The $25 is charged by Alamo. What trippled? Many tolls are 0.75.

Not the rates...the FEES! Meaning that the number of bills that Alamo has been receiving for people not paying their .75 toll has quadrupled. When Alamo questioned why, all of a sudden, there was this sudden increase in people not paying the toll the people at SunPass said they are in the process of changing the locations of some of their booths, and some of the booths actually look like exits so people are taking the exit and not paying the toll first. They said that most of the bills in Orlando are for the booths where you get on or off for the airport. We must have missed it and didn't even realize. I had bills and coins in my hand to give to my husband for the tolls because we knew that we had them coming up.

I KNOW I missed a toll last time we was down there, due to them moving the booths. We had already passed it when I realized it was a toll booth...NO signs no nothing! Luckily we never received anything in the mail for it, we were told that they don't try to collect if you have out of state plates
