PSA: Crocs on Airport Escalators

A 3 year old girl on her way to Disney World was injured at the Atlanta airport. Her foot was caught in the escalator. The soft rubbery show "grabs" the side wall of the escalator while the stairs are moving. She broke 3 toes, and had to have surgery to pin her bones. I know this isn't the first incident with escalators and crocs. It never hurts to be reminded of the potential danger.

I find crocs to be pretty dangerous. When they are wet they are very slippery and I have heard of the escalator issue before too. The only place my daughter is permitted to wear them is to the beach since I think they are really to ugly to be worn out in public anywhere else anyway LOL!

Yes, this has happened SEVERAL times. you would think he would do something about it!

It can happen with any shoe. A child with a stray shoe lace can also get caught. No matter what shoes my kids wear I remind them about getting off and on properly.

This can happen with any shoe, untied shoelaces, torn pants hems, skirt hems, etc. The problem here is not Crocs. The problem here is lack of common sense.

Yes, I got a normal sandal caught in an escalator as a kid. Fortunatly I was old enough (and big enought) to pull it out before I got hurt. Everyone should always be carefull about their feet on escalators.

My mother always told me a story about how she witnessed a baby/todler that got her hand stuck in an escalator. Her mother left her in the stroller while using it, and the poor kid stuck her hand out. My mother had to help hold this screaming girl while they tried to get her hand free. She lost a couple of fingers. Now, I always have to stop myself from yelling at people when I see them leave their kids in the stroller while on an escalator, it can be very dangerous (they have those "no stroller" signs on these things for a reason!).
