Well, I have pretty much given up on switching my flight from PVD to BDL especially since the latest dings are coming out with Sep dates so, it looks like we are flying from Providence. What can you tell me about TF Green? We live in Fairfield County CT and I have flown often from BDL, LGA, JFK, HPN, EWR but never in or out of PVD. We have a 7AM flight and about a 2 hour drive to get there so any information about the airport anyone can give us in advance would be very helpful. Tips? Parking? Best Routes? Things to avoid? Any info would be great!! Also, due to the earliness (is that a word?) of our flight I am also considering a hotel by the airport...

TIA

I love TF Green. Unfortunatly, a ton of people have discovered it and it now gets pretty busy!!! We used the PreFlight parking lot the last time we flew out of Green. It's really nice. You park your car, they pick you up with the shuttle van right in front of your car, and then drop you at the terminal about 8 mins later. And it's not very expensive...at least not when you're used to Boston rates!!!
There are a bunch of hotels in the immediate area, I just can't remember off hand which ones they are.

We prefer flying out of TF Greene over Boston by far.... it's just so much easier (the airport is much smaller than Logan). Unfortunately, I can't help you much in that we drive to my parents' house (they live 25 min. from the airport) and then Dad drives us in and drops us off curbside :thumbsup2
Good luck!!! Hope everything falls into place for you!:goodvibes

We have flown out of Providence several times. We have stayed at the Comfort Inn near the airport the night before our flight and left the car right in their parking lot. The price was reasonable and they offered a decent continental breakfast starting pretty early in the morning.

I'm not sure how flexible you are, but BDL to TPA still has some dings from time to time and even without dings the fares are $59 each way on some direct flights through September. We just flew BDL to TPA and back and found the flights less than full and the net time difference from TPA to WDW compared to MCO to WDW is a half hour of driving and no tolls to pay.

Best of luck in your travels!!

I live 5 minutes from the airport, which is actually in Warwick, not Providence. Didn't want you to think you had to drive in to a city. You'll be coming on Rt. 95 North and it's right off the highway. I've heard good things about the Best Western park and fly deal...and they also have a continental breakfast. Might be worth it instead of driving up that morning for such an early flight. You'll want to be at the airport about 2 hours before your flight.

I'm contemplating a trip to the Northeast in Sept.( I live in Los Angeles), and will certainly consider flying SW into Providence vs. United or American into Boston, particularly if there's a hefty difference in the airfare, which could be the case...you just never know.

Is getting out of the SW terminal at PVD and into a rental car substantially easier than either the United or American terminals at Logan?

I'd assume the answer is yes, but I'd still like to solicit opinions from anyone who's used both airports.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I've never rented a car at Logan but I can tell you that all rental companies are very close to the airport here. The airport is right off I-95 too, compared to Logan in which you need to take a tunnel to get into Boston and then navigate the higways in and around the city.

How's the weather in Boston/Providence in late Sept./early October?

Also, does it get REALLY cold at night (or even SNOW) at that time of year?

Weather at that time of year is BEAUTIFUL. No snow. If I were the OP, I would spend the night at a hotel and then use Airport Valet. we use them every time we go on vacation and love them.

We live in RI and love TF Green. We just Pre-Flight as another poster said. There is usually an on-line coupon for them; actually I've seen two different coupons. one is for 10% off and at other times its 15%. Providence (really Warwick, RI) is SOOO much smaller than Boston, which I've never flown out of. The last time we went to Disney we were off the plane, at luggage claim, on the shuttle and on our way home in less than 20 minutes:banana:

I know there is a Radison hotel right across the street. I've heard on the radio of a special where you stay one night and get parking for the entire week, plus a shuttle to the airport for less than $100-of course I can't remember the hotel, but I remember it being a decent hotel. Warwick is relatively safe area with lots of options for hotels and parking.

You can check the TF Green website for local hotels

Agreeing with the above poster-lived in RI for 21 yrs and now about 30 min. away...
The evenings are cooler-50's or so at that time of year. Daytimes are usually anywhere between high 50's-low 70's depending on if we have an Indian Summer. You'll most likely just see the very start of the foliage-it usually peaks in RI around Columbus Day weekend or the week after.
Have fun planning! :thumbsup2

I am glad you clarified that the airport is in Warwick and not Providence. I have never understood why it is always advertised as Providence. And it is so true that some would think there would be traffic and difficultys getting there if it was in the city as Logan is. I try to use TF Green instead of Boston whenever I can but I love Jetblue so Boston usually wins out. I hope they fly out of Warwick at some point.
As all other posters have said TF Green is a great little airport, very easy to navigate, right off the highway, in and out as opposed to Logan.
I give it :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Not this year. Everything to MCO and TPA have been at least $99 each way and right now they are over $100

Thanks everyone!! I like the idea of parking at the hotel for the week. Kills two birds with one stone. As for regular parking, is that PreFlight lot run by the airport or is it independent? Also, everyone is comparing PVD to Logan but how does it compare size and ease to Bradley? This is great info, everyone!! Thanks again!!!:)

You may want to also consider/price SW flights into Manchester, NH airport. We live in Central MA and fly out of either PVD or MHT depending on which is cheaper. Both airports are much smaller and less crowded than Logan.

I'd forgotten all about Manchester; it's only 40-50 miles from Boston, isn't it?

Thanks for that tip.

Last time I was at Bradley it was undergoing some major renovations, but I would have to say it appeared to be on the same scale as TF Green. Bradley may have been a little larger, I would say TF Green is still easier to navigate. There several hotels very close by(Comfort Suites is literally next to the airfield and you could walk to the terminal if you had to), I'm sure they all provide transportation. Depending on what you're looking for, I'd suggest Crown Plaza, Radisson, Holiday Inn Express, Hilton -which are all within a couple minutes of the airport. Maybe you could land a great deal on Priceline that would cost as much as parking anyway.

I would definately vote to go to PVD. It's great no hassle of Boston and the outrageous parking fees. We paid under 100.00 to park for 8 days last year. I wouldn't worry about rushing to the airport either for your early morning flight as our flight was at 7:30 last year and we got there 2 hours early and none of the airlines were even open yet for check in so we ended up waiting a good deal of time. I have never flown out of Manchester how long a drive is it from Worcester? Thanks for any help!

We loved BDL--flew out for the first time last Feb. At Green, off site parking prices are similar-- maybe 7 or 8/day with an online coupon? Offsite parking is on Post Road, right outside the airport. We used Thrifty near the Sheraton (which also has a park and fly option, I think). In size, they are similar airports-- in fact, once inside, I forgot which airport I was in!
I think you will be happy, even though you are getting up REALLY early!
