I just wanted to share this with my buds here because I am so proud and have been walking on air for the entire morning!!

Background info: DS (14) is a wrestler...10th season, but first year on HS varsity team. He is a freshman. So, he is having an amazing season. He has 18 wins and only 3 losses. We wrestle in one of the hardest areas in the entire country. Several of our competitor schools are ranked in the Nation!! Pennsylvania as a whole is pretty well-known for it's wrestling. Anyway, two weeks ago he was the subject of the main headline on front page of our sports section. So, my husband and I were very proud. Last night, he wrestled a match and the opposing team moved one of their star wrestlers to face my son. Other coaches do this as a strategy to try and beat another good wrestler and raise the overall team points. Well, that strategy didn't work last night!! DS beat the boy 13-0!!!! Sooooo exciting! Then, this moring my phone started going off by 7 am...DS had a picture AND small write up on the front page this time!! So, as if things could not get any better...the school calls...it's DS's World Cultures teacher. He says he wants to congratulate DH & I. I figured it was about the article. Nope!! DS had the highest World Cultures grade in 9th grade this marking period and in fact, the whole semester!! He got a 96 in the marking period and a 95 in he semester!!!! The teacher had so many great tings to say that I actually started crying!! LOL They were good tears...great actually!! I am just so proud of him! So, thanks for letting me share! I will try to post the link to the article / picture in case anyone is interested in peeking!!

They are both the same picture...the first has the blurb with it, but it disappears in a few seconds unless you are a member.

Congrats to both you, DH and your son!!!
Isn't it the best feeling to have our kids recognized for their successes!!! It's especially nice to have the teacher's call us and let us know that even though they may be a bit difficult at home with us (at times)...that what we are teaching them is really hitting home even if they don't want to admit it!!!

Congrats to your DS on that spectacular win last night.. that rival schools are talking!!! LOL I love when we foil the plans of the opposing teams!!!!

Off to read the article.. I can't wait to show my DS10... He wants to wrestle so when you give us updates, I give him updates... so guess what he'll be reading after school!! I keep telling him hard work pays off and you are a STUDENT-ATHLETE...grades then sports.. and you can succeed in both when you put forth effort... it is earned!!

That's wonderful!!! I'm sure all the other schools will be after him now with their top guys!!!

Congrats to your star student and athlete!!!!

Thanks everyone!!! He is doing so well at keeping himself grounded too!! It's mom and dad that have their heads in the clouds!! LOL

Nan - it is an amazing sport for young boys. It really does something for them. I feel like it makes them super mature! A great coach helps a ton also! And DS has that behind him!

LM3K's we have an awesome coach! WE have won conference the past 2 years in a row and we send at least 3 to state every year.. We have one little guy, freshmen, that is still undefeated in 2 seasons... I have to laugh because he never seemed agile or flexible as a kid....

That's awesome Nan!!! I hope you son goes for it and really enjoys it. It's so different than any other sport! Tell him best of luck!

Thanks Erin.. I'll keep you posted... The one great thing is that one of his friends wrestles now in the "junior league" so they discuss it often.. It's all greek to me... I would know more but my Uncle who was our wrestler passed about 4 years ago.... so our knowledge base is no longer available..

I'm just so happy for your son... must make him feel good to be doing so well as a freshmen... most times the freshmen are overlooked.. it's nice to remind everyone that the younger kids have the ability and will show you if you just look!

Congrats to all of you! What wonderful achievements - both the wrestling and the WC grades.

WOW!!! Congratulations to all of you. Balancing sports and academics is not easy, it takes a very dedicated family to be able to excel at both. Your DS is a very talented young man.
