protecting valuables from water and not losing eyeglasses?

I've heard that the waterproof receptacles in raft rides are not to be trusted. Any help on which rides will be a problem if I'd like to keep the contents (cameras, etc.) dry in a vinyl purse that doesn't have an airtight seal? I really would prefer not to use a locker.

Also, anyone have any bad experiences with loss of glasses on rides? My 9 year old has new ones (just one pair) and I'd like to avoid ruining his vacation.

I would suggest that you bring along some ziplock plastic bags for anything that must stay dry. The storage area on Popeye's Bilge Barge Rats is a pretty small "cubbie" that is in the center of the raft and is kept "waterproof" with a vinyl cover and velcro strips.

You WILL get soaking wet on this ride, so it might be best to wear swim suits and sandals.

The other water rides do not have storage bins but you may only get wet from the waist up. This is Dudley Doright's Rip Saw Falls, and Jurassic Park, bothe log type, water flume rides.

I strongly suggest that you use a locker for a dry set of clothes (undies too!) so that the rest pf your day is enjoyable.

As for your son's glasses, I always take off my sunglasses on these rides because i never know when I might get splashed in the face. You might give him a fanny pack to wear to keep his glassses when he is riding the wild stuff.

When my son was younger I bought him a sports strap to wear when he was on turbulent rides. It worked out great. I started out with the one which fits tight around the head and prevents all movement. As he got older we graduated to the looser strap.

I also suggest you never travel without prescriptions for replacement glasses. I learned the hard way many years ago. I lost my glasses on a roller coaster and was unable to drive home. Of course I now wear contacts and just take along extras.

I have a question for you folks with contacts.
My son just got contacts last Friday. They told him he can't wear them for swimming, in the shower, etc. Can he wear them on Bluto's, Dudley's, JPRA, etc? I am especially concerned about Bluto's since we always get soaked on that one.

We used the bin provided in raft but had took extra plastic bag and wrapped camera bag in that then in bin no problems as for my glasses i put in my fanny pack but be sure to wrap your wallet in plastic as well or u will get soggy money

I wore my contacts on all of these rides I even wear my contact for swimming and showering. If I go under water I close my eyes in the pool.

I know you just bought his lenses but disposable contacts are the best. I have lost a few over the years (12 years of wearing contacts) but it has never been a big deal since I change them every two weeks.

Does he wear soft or hard lenses? Hard lenses are more prone to falling out but soft lenses rarely just pop up because they conform to the eye.

I also wear my contacts on all the rides and swimming. I also wear disposables so I always have extras. I've never lost a contact lens in 36 years of wear. That includes hard lenses, soft lenses, and disposables. If you're concerned the lenses may wash out, have him wear sunglasses with a strap. That won't keep all the water out on the rides but it would help.

As to removing glasses on rides, if you are as blind as I am you aren't able to see what's going on around you without glasses. Granted sometimes this can be an advantage but most of the time I want to know what's happening!

My son wears soft lenses, but not disposables. He has some sort of astygmatism (sp?) that prevents him from wearing "normal" soft lenses. However, we bought an entire year worth of lenses (replace every two months), which included his "trial pair" free. We will always have two complete pairs with us, as he plays football, roller hockey, and he wrestles at the state level.

losing a contact will occasionally happen but don't sweat it. I wouldn't worry about one just popping out on a ride. The times I lost one it was my fault and really had nothing to do with an activity.
